Cant Patch v1.0 from dvd

Ive done a complete new install of SH3 and when I go to patch it to 1.4 ( or any earlier patch ) I get a message cant update from ver 1.0 to 1.3(?)
data\menu\de_menu.txt unknown.........

Anybody else had this? I have it on Win XP, but I also got this on my laptop with vista.

1. Did you perform a registry clean before the install?
OR
2. Are you using the correct patch according to your copy of SH3 ie download , DVD , US or other?

I did a clean first time install on this PC with Win XP. Im using ver 1.0 from the cd/dvd and I cant patch it to any higher version without getting that message.

Yes its a complete new (first time ) install. I really dont understand this...I completed a campaign mission also hoping that that might help in some way, sadly it didnt.

It seems to be trying to say it can't find the de_menu.txt file. This being the case, I'd check the folder to see if it exists and if not, try manually inserting it to see if it allows it to continue the install.

Thanks for the file :DL.........:cry: sadly it doesnt help.
Ive re-installed on differnt drives, on 2 pc`s and I get the same message everytime, its taken up my time all day :wah: and I cant play with the Grey wolves expansion because it needs the 1.4 update....this is really wierd.
My dvd version shows as 1.0

Are you sure you have the right patch? There are 2 different patches for the DVD, a U.S. and a European version.

Is it a newly-bought disc, or is it one you've used in the past? When you say it's 1.0, did you load the game and look at the loading screen for the version, and did you hold the cursor over the icon, or did you assume it's unpatched? If it's new it's probably already patched.

That was it.....I had the US patch and not the Euro one ( I stupidly didnt think about that, but I never saw the euro one anywhere.

PS I put SH5 back in its box, I didnt like anything about it and Ive been into SH since the first version way back.
