Just received an email from young Buna stating he is navigating his ship MV Ryndam (with the aid of a local Pilot) full of wealthy American tourists around Tromso/Hakoy showing them the final resting place of the Tirpitz...the jammy/lucky bugga!!

Yeah it was amazing to see the buoy out the water which marked the location and to find out whats only a shallow distance beneath it, so hopefully next time we will go to the shoreline were it is, the pictures the pilot had were unreal of underwater images as the norwegians won't regard it as a resting place as they hate the Germans so there is no protection over the area, basically anyone can dive around it and have a look but its a really remote area so not many people get close to it!!!

Cheers Neal, Jeff, Grant....your all so kind.

I should have posted the paragraph that preceded the one above first

Dad you would have been well chuffed today, the cruise has been really good so far, at the moment we are up past the arctic circle so it's constant sunlight all day plus today we were at Tromso and I saw the wreck area of the Tirpitz, the German world war 2 boat which was bombed by the RAF in 1944. The pilot gave me the whole history of it and I have to say it looks amazing as they informed me there is still all of the remains on the sea bed, we sailed 4 mile away from it but next time we are hoping for the pilot to take us to the island of Hakoy which is the coastline of where she sunk and see the craters in the land plus she's only about 5 metres under the water!!!
I shall keep you posted, I thought you would have wanted to know about that :)

Actually he's working on that....we nearly got a free cruise to Alaska last year but the ship was fully booked.

His mum wants to be on a cruise on his particular ship when he is on duty and whilst I can understand her feelings I'm not so sure that is such a good idea.

His ship MV Ryndam is not the newest in the Holland-America fleet but for some reason I can't fathom out it is usually the first to be fully booked.

Mrs Buna saya "That's because James is so good at his job" :DL:hmmm:

She's a lovely ship.

So long as Mr Ehlert is no longer on board.

Sounds like he is planning his work and working his plan! It is always a great feeling to see ones children succeed and reach their goals. It reflects on the good parenting!

Just curious Jim... Did your son get access to this thread? If yes then what he said?

Unfortunately he hasn't so I'll archive it for him to look at on his return in September.
