Kucinich, other House members file lawsuit against Obama on Libya military mission

The House members argue that the Obama administration overstepped its constitutional authority by authorizing the use of U.S. military force abroad without first receiving approval from Congress. U.S. forces have been involved in the campaign against Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi for 88 days.

Critics argue that Obama violated the 1973 War Powers Resolution by failing to seek congressional approval for the mission.

Even though I doubt anything will come of this, I applaud the members for standing up to unilateral action. This administration has really taken on some of the worst aspects of the Bush years...Patriot Act, copyright law, unilateral decisions...very disappointed.

The Libya action isn't unilateral by any means. France and the UK were pushing for action long before the US got involved, and now the operation is being handled by NATO.

Granted, the plaintifs may have a case under the War Powers Act. But this is multilateral action.

I suppose I should clarify: Unilateral in the sense that the President decided it and that was it. It didn't go to a Congressional vote.

Compare this to what Obama said in 2007: "The President does not have the power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation."

Somehow, no matter who is in the office, they all seem to act the same way. I am behind Obama's effort to topple a 27-year dictator, but he was Mr. Proper, why is he resisting this?

@ AVG : With all due respect (I mean, really), I think your post just describes properly the mental condition of your country's voters. Who would have ever thought the life of Libyans would be in the hands of people whose electors (native Americans for most of them) don't know who to vote for, happen to choose randomly in the end, and then throw this kind of argument in the air...

That may be the only reason why the world got into such a state nowadays.

With no respect and making fun of what you wrote...do you live in a cave or are you just in denial?
If however you have been living in a cave then get out and find which government had been in "negotiations" with the "rebels" and for how long, then tie that in to the same people being the first government to announce their recognition of the "rebels" as an alternative government in the soon to be joined civil war.

I'm actually glad that the West are intervening in Libya. I can't say I worship David Cameron, Sarkozy and Obama but I really admire these people.

David Cameron looks like the Obama European counterpart. Young, fresh face and seems to be a charismatic leader and somehow showing to be a more trustworthy leader(maybe because they are young and a fresh face). First world nations do have first world leaders.

I still have conviction that the pro democracy movement is going to prevail and it shouldn't take too long time(compared to other wars). There will be moment when the world is going to say " Finally"
