Ive been playing this game about 4 days now. 2 of them spent getting my mods setup just right so im very proud of this shot.

Cimmaron Class Tanker
Range 7500
Speed 10 knots
Angle 90 degrees

Intercepted it on the east coast of britain. got into a good firing position, used the 3:15 to estimate speed and waited for the shot. i fired two t1 torps at 7 second intervals set to low speed i aimed the first one mid ship and the second near the bow. after a few minutes they got to the tanker. the first one hit a few meters from the bow of the ship, blew a nice good sized hole into it. second one flew by about 10 meters in front of it. after a few mins it started flooding pretty good but just to be sure i closed in and finished it with my deck gun. :arrgh!: pretty happy my furthest shot before this was about 3500 i believe. the fastest target was a cruise liner moving at 27 knots.

depends how you play... if you not use ''dud torpedoes'' you can have good shots somwhere around 6 km

87% realism settings, =D only had 2 premature detonations so far

11 km on a carrier at SW of UK. My hardest shot ever as at that time I did not used any stadi fix. Only 1 torpedo hit the target, but I already was too far to see the explosion. Got no sunk message, but the shot itself was a great achievement for me.

Awesome shot... Good work.

I've never attempted a shot at more than 3km.

I play at 100% realism with real nav. Only had a few duds and two circle runners. The circle runners where headed right at me :o. ALARM... crash dive. Now I always dive after firing torps... The safety of my sub outways the watching ships sink.:yep:

Try using navigator assist's estimate speed to get speed and try shot again  By taking multiple range readings (with nav assist enabled) the navigator will calculate speed, aob, and course from them. You can also use the speed finder feature of the mod to get target speed (avg and estimated speed over time)

Navigator assist?

I'll have to check it out. I have used the gunner's speed finder ability, which works fine, but I didn't know the navigator could.

How do you supply range readings to the navigator? Simply by taking stadi readings while nav assist is on?

Anything to have the crew take up some of the workload would be great. :)

And what's the 3:15 method again?

Thank you.

What is the gunner's speed finder ability? Where do you find it/activate it?

You supply range readings to the navigator by using the stadimeter with nav assist on in the options file.

Take a stadimeter reading, mark your target on map and start the clock. After 3.15 minutes take another range check and mark the new position. The distance between the 2 mark is your speed. For example a distance of 1km=10knts. I never let the navigator to touch the scope.

My longest shot was at carrier at distance of 8500m. 3 out of 4 torpedoes launched hit the target and sunk it.
I've plotted approximate task force course, distance and speed were calculated using stadimeter. Did I mention it was clear day with no fog?
Those days long gone I am on third patrol in Operation Drumbeat off US East Coast sinking ships in medium fog exclusively (max visibility 3000m). The only positive side - aircraft have hard time to spot you.

P.S. most embarrassing miss happened today. Out of 3 torpedoes only 1 hit the target due miscalculation of the speed at distance.... like 800m :rotfl2:. Usually I don't even use TDC at distances 1000m and less and fast TI torpedoes and hit just fine.

Forced to fire a spread of 4 from about 8km once, got 2 hits. Was somewhere up around Attu. Will never forget that one. (SH4 btw)

Embarrassing misses? Tons. Try using a Mark 14 early war in RFB...

You supply range readings to the navigator by using the stadimeter with nav assist on in the options file.

Through the gunner's menu form your UI... if you lock onto a target you can have him estimate speed. Or maybe he's not the gunner... the weapons officer? The one you use to identify target.

As for nav assist, turns out I do have it on already, but never noticed. So how exactly does it take effect?

What I mean, say I have taken a stadimeter reading of a target, how then does the navigator tell me the AOB and such? Does he set it automatically?

Thank you.
