Beijing, June 3 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A teenager in China's Anhui province has sold his right kidney to buy an iPad 2. His mother, who knew nothing of his plans, now hopes to hunt down the criminals who disabled him, a media report said.
Seventeen-year-old Xiao Zheng had been dreaming of a new iPad 2 for a while, but the price was beyond his means.

We should think about how good we have it. We would never trade our kidney for an iPad2 because we are rich enough that we don't have to be that desperate.

A great candidate for the Darwin Award if he dies of kidney failure.
This guy has his priorities screwed up.
An Idiot for sure.
I would say its sad story if it happened because he had to put food on his table.

Exactly! Then he would be desperate, can't see any desperation in the wish to get some fancy plastic consumer good by all means.
Hmm China,
O.T but just rememebered a story some ago about an american tourist in the early 80's
He was in China and travelling by train when he had his camera stolen, so he reported it to the conductor.
A few minutes later, the train is stopped and boarded by police who then search all the passengers until the camera is found.
Its theif is then taken off the train and executed by a bullet to the head, right by the side of the tracks (in full view of all the passengers)
Needless to say the tourist was horrified! - I dont think I would want my camera back after that either.

I find it impossible to feel sorry for the kid, he did something incredibly stupid for a silly product and now is paying a high price for it. Then again, the people involved in that type of organ dealing are in no way vindicated by his stupidity and should be brought to justice.

Going to have to quote Einstein here.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.

For an Ipod2?
I think The Frau would gladly sell one of my kidneys so that she could have an Ipod2. :o

Hard to take sides here.
You go: poor fellow, one mistake and it might cost him his life, and in the same moment you go: what an idiot.
He's both really. But idiocy isn't something that should be punished with deteriorating health and/or death.
Plus, if those people are skilled in removing organs, proabibly means they practised a lot on non-volunteer donors

Makes me feel sad, it is tragic. Hell, it'S a 17 years old boy. Not everybody is ripe and perfect at that late childhood's phase, right?
I imagine how his computer toy is breaking down, or soon will be outdated, or whatever. Wear and tear. And the day when he realises what he did - and realises there is no way back.
Terrible. And tragic. For the mother as well.
