Waiting for a paintjob to dry, I'm browsing through the pictures, trying to plan ahead and then realised, just how many errors there are! http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/smilies/banana_sad.gif

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/5970/PC-errors.jpg

Errors list:
1 - grey back and sides on the DVD! To be solved by black spray...
2 - cable mess! *Must* be able to place/hide better...
3 - orange ThermalTake fan! To be replaced with a white Fractal Design fan!
4 - one more orange fan!!! Replace!
5 - very good cooler, yes! but not water! Nor black! Must be removed!
6 - blue RAM! Blue! Totally unacceptable! Must be sprayed black ASAP!
7 - cool and BIG Intel cooler, but not water! Go away!
8 - blue cooling fins! Replace with black, watercooled one.
9 - as 8
10 - as 9
11 - a box in white, orange, dark brown, black orange, red og dark green http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/smilies/faint2.gif to be replaced by a black Fractal Design

Always nice one can find work for one self to do! http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/smilies/lollipop.gif

Bracket for power and rpm signals and water in/out.
All Fractal Design brackets are - as their fans - white, so new brackets of course must be white too...

The desk is brown! :nope:Old place and old desk! http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/smilies/grinser.gif

New desk at new place:
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/5970/Paint005.jpg

Notice how strategic it's positioned.
Looking left I see the main sail entrance to Esbjerg and large parts of the bay and looking right I have my beloved TV! http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/smilies/biggrin.gif

Oh! and note how the desk itself has been modified.
Added a "draft screen" along it's backside and to the left side I've inserted a removeable panel with heat/cool outlet!
The theory is that air from the cooling box will feel cool in hot times and warm during the winter... legs are getting old... :D

12. Needs Neon lights? :O:No. Never! :O: Don't like lights in pc, but trying to keep a simpler theme.
Black, white, chrome and cupper... have played with the idea of painting the entire motherboard... but ehh... :D

Some choices were easy though, like this horrible look of the CrossFire bridges and the connector housing:

I thought this method was well and truly over with all the high tech fans powerful enough to fly a small plane :)Not when overclocking your gear. Or if you want it to run both cool and quiet... or simply like bling!

Once the system has been thoroughly checked, all three GPUs will be overclocked to 900/1300MHz and CPU will be overclocked to 3.8 or 4.0 GHz to keep up with graphics.

The 5970 likes to run some 65-70 degree C even with the Arctic Extreme air cooler - stock cooler saw it running +80 degree! :nope:

On water I expect everything stays well under 40 degree... :D

Here's how the loop runs btw. - radiator and pump located in external case (will show later):

If you're going to use spray paint, make sure things not supposed to be painted are:

1. covered
2. moved outside paint zone
3. not your own stuff
4. same colour as paint

After spraying brackets and DVD-cover white, I suddenly see the camera was still on the shop desk... CSI Esbjerg at work:

B.t.w., i would never put Water in my holy PC. One tiny Hole in the Hull and Shes going down. :88)Nah, nothing will happen. The cooling liquid is non-conductive and with a little care when you assemble the parts, it'll be tight from the start :D

And it's not like you'll find thousands of links when you search google for leaks...

Oh! Wait... :shifty:

You'll get 1 million and 220 thousand links! :rotfl2:

But have a tiny update.

The camera is now nice and clean again after use of propylalchohol and lots of elbow grease.
Thank you Nikon for making the brilliant rubber coating!

And Carsten, the camera owner, only rolled of laughter when he saw the pics :nope:

Had a little set-back with the pc. It turned out that the loop was way too restrictive = very little flow through the system.

Have now removed cooling heads for MOSFETs, North- and Southbridge:

I did spend an evening searching the marked for a new camera house. Cheapest I could find was a second-hand at some $200... :dead:

Decided to take the risk and first tested on a bottom corner. Only thing that would bite was as said propyl alchohol.
Used two new rags for the procedure. First wetting the area with one cloth, then lots of rubbing with the dry cloth.
What a relief to see the fine "dust" go off :D

Took some two hours to finish the job...

I believe a non-conductive liquid is used, although some people use distilled water - I don't think it'll be black enough for our JK here! :03:

Jan Kyster

Lets hope you never have a leak with your PS below the flow tubes.Hope - and prayer for that matter - is not to be part of a water cooling project.

Just don't rush things and be very meticulous when putting things together. Run a long leaktest before powering up the rig.

First WC build was made more than a year ago, never saw a leak under construction and still holds tight in it's new home.
This build has been running a 20 hour leaktest, was tight straight from the beginning and still is.

If you check the million google links for leaking water, you'll be surprised how sloppy people are... :D

But it's hard to find waterleaks with disastrous results - air cooling has killed more pc's than water ever will.

Wishing you a nice weekend! :salute:

Going back to the rebuild... will post pics later...

And btw. distilled water isn't conductive either.

New holes for tubing up/down:
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/5970/ASSY082.jpg
Nice piece of steel to make holes for tubes. Only needed to lightly file the edges.
Of course there was an existing 3 mm hole that got in the way, but for looks the tube had to run there...

Four corner stands, one spacer for cabling and one for looks!

Even thought of turning the 5870 into a true slave-card by unsoldering/removing ports, but it is nice to have in case of trouble further ahead...

:hmmm: hmmm, seems I needs to adjust some of those brackets.

Like the new spacers...
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/5970/ASSY104.jpg

Leaktest is running and everything looks to be tight.

If time permits I'll finish cabling and close the cooling box later today/tonight.

Will (most probably! :D ) post temp stats and some final pics then... thanks for watching and for the nice comments!

Done!

No leaks, no damage, all cool! Updated drivers and app. profiles.

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/5970/ASSY120.jpg

Temps idle cpu/gpu 29/30, under load 31/49  Ambient temp is some 20 degree.

For better temps, the fans for radiator should be replaced from current 800 RPM to 1200 (or higher) RPM, but the advantage is the silence.

Next tasks will be cleaning tower/box :D and then some light overclocking.

Graphics cards are running the "slow" 5970 mode (725/1000MHz) and will be upped to 5870 mode, 850/1200MHz.

CPU i7-930 will be overclocked from current 2,8GHz to ~3,6GHz.

Looking good, but if I were as 'caring' as you to the colours I would've had your beloved Fractal Designs PSU out and covered up that horrible orangey/yellow! :o

Just saying. :D
