I installed the game "Total Annihilation" and started playing it again when all of a sudden, the music came on and it sounded VERY familiar but I didn't know where I heard it before. THEN, I started playing Silent Hunter III, and when I went to save and exit the game, lo and behold, it was playing the same music. So it looks like Ubisoft kidnapped at least ONE music track from an old game. It's the 15th audio track from the "Total Annihilation" CD. Great choice of a tune !

Ive noticed a lot of reused sounds in many different games.

The sound of the "monster cube" thing that shoots out of the end boss's mouth in Doom II has been the most used borrowed sound effect in Sci Fi Channel history. To this day, every time there's a bomb explostion or a missile launch or an alien photon torpedo or anything like that on TV, you hear that "SWOOSH" sound from the final battle of Doom 2.

ID Software must be making a mint on the licensing of that sound effect.

They may not have come up with it. A lot of sound effects are like stock photos - you can license them fairly cheaply and that's why they're so ubiquitous. I'm willing to bet that sound is one of those, because you're right, it's everywhere. But it will always be a Doom 2 sound effect to me.

Every time I hear that sound in a TV show or movie, my mind instantly has a "Monster Box" landing next to the characters and turning into an Imp or something. :DL
Can't say I've ever heard that SFX on telly. :hmmm:

Did you know that many sound effects used in the original Doom games were acquired from Sound Ideas' General series (http://www.sound-ideas.com/6000.html) sound effects library, which is why they can be heard in various movies and television shows?
