I have two versions of this map, one with the Kriegsmarine flag as a back ground, and one without. Both are copies of the original Kriegsmarine grid map from WWII. At almost 2'x 3' in size these maps will make a great wall display for any Silent Hunter gamer. If any one is interested in getting one of these maps, please let me know, as I will be getting them printed in June. This map is 1 ½ times larger than the Grid map found in AOD.

No problem, I will let you know before I print them. If you like I can customize them for you.
Hi,
I'd be interested in the maps too. I'd like to use them as a background to a chess board with a North Atlantic naval theme..
Thanks

Making finishing touches to the map now, then I will make them public. As I stated earlyer I can customize any map to the buyers liking. These are large maps and can be framed using poster frames. Maps will be sold at cost + $5, $2.50 from each sale will be donated to Subsim.
Hi,
I'm looking at a chess board at 50cm x 50cm - so I ideally I need a map with those dimensions if possible. Do you have a PayPal account ?
Thanks again

Yes it is possible, I can make it 50cm x 50cm, or 19.7" x 19.7" in size. How soon do you need it, and would you like to have anything special on the map for you? Did you want the map with or without flag?
Without the flag will be fine.
Whenever it's convenient. I have the chess pieces I just need to paint them..., submarines for the German pawns, destroyers for the British pawns, Tirpitz and Ark Royal as the Kings, Bismarck and Prince of Wales as the Queens, etc.
Actually, I don't suppose you could superimpose a chess board over the map ?
For info, I was inspired by this chess set of the North Africa Campaign :

These are pretty neat! It's a shame that my walls are already covered with stuff...
That looks great !
If possible could you crop the poster to the border of the map itself, i.e. exclude the 'raiders of the deep' logo ?
Just let me know how much and how to pay !
Cheers
oh, and perhaps switch the chess board around so that the 'white' square is in the top right corner of the map (over the Russian convoy route). That way the German pieces can be lined up along the right hand side from Norway down to Africa and the Allies on left, from Canada down to South America !

Like this? This will make a great chess board, you will make to show me what the pieces look like.:yeah:
Here is the Tirpitz and Bismark - the Kriegsmarine King and Queen respectively (7.5cm long) ... http://www.flickr.com/photos/64031638@N07/5832009052/in/photostream

I have some IXc and VIIc U-boats to paint as pawns, as well as A/H class, Q/R class and J/K/N class destroyers as the RN pawns.
Thought I'd use Hood and Repulse v Graf Spee and Scheer as bishops.
Prinz Eugen and Sharnhorst v York and Exeter (?) as knights.
Not sure about the rooks yet !

Hi,
accidentally I read this post.
Attention, I don't know these grids maps are free of copyright...
... than you may find them on the web searching on google image "Kriegsmarine gridsmap", scanning rapidshare or in this post (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163410).
I'm a private collector of KM maps, you may see my >100 maps on www.kartengruppe.it.
On the registered area of my site you may find the links for the scan (I've uploaded on madiafire) of some original kriegsmarine nautical charts & atlas, come from my personal collection... so copyright-free
This is an exemple:
- - >> Download the file here (http://www.mediafire.com/file/tde3fjtw05bba0e/D.Adm.406_STILLER_OZEAN_Mittlerer_Teil_%20Sudblatt _Kriegsmarine_Nautical_Chart_by_Kartengruppe.it.ra r) << - -
... just for fun

May I make a few suggestions? This is what I imagine the pieces would be...
Perhaps the HMS Hood and Repulse could be rooks, one each of the York and County class heavy cruisers as bishops, and the Town class light cruisers as knights.
As for the Germans, I would have the Deutschland class Panzerschiffen (I can't really think of any other ship designation) as rooks, the Scharnhorst class battlecruisers as bishops, and the Hipper class cruisers as knights.
Darn, I'm rambling again.
Sounds a good idea. I'll have a look at the Deutschland class ships.
I had thought about the old battleships Ramillies and Royal Soverign as knights as they were slow but useful.
Here is the finished chess board. I just need advice designing the pieces - should they be on plynths ?
