Anyone other than me waiting for Thief 4?

Generally speaking do people who like playing sub sims like the sneaky games like Thief and Splinter Cell?

I know that I do. :D

I'm a fan of SC games. Never tried the Thief games. I have frequently considered buying the older thief titles, though.

Still, I'm looking forward to Thief 4.

Thief 4? What's that? You mean that Thi4f they're working on? :O:

Yeah, looking forward to seeing more of it. Really not much known yet though.

And yes, love the sneaky stuff. Basically if a game has stealth I'm sold.

Try Thief 3 Deadly Shadows. The first two were OK, but not as good as the third.

I am in the same submarine as Arclight. If it has stealth I like it. I guess that's also why I like sniper games also.

Oooooo.... a fourth title in the series? :D

I had a blast with Thief 2 and 3 (especially 3). Does my heart good to hear of a new one. :yep:

Guess that makes three of us in the same boat. Sneaky games rule uber alles. I even try to play some not-so-sneaky games as sneakily as I can.

A lot of die hard thief fans would think you have it backwards, that 1 & 2 were the best.

Personally I am hoping for more open world game play. (Oh I am also a sniper fan as well, too bad there are very few good ones).

Thief 1 had horrendous load times.

Personally I would rate them 3,2,1 in order but even 1 was fun to play.

Matter of fact, I am playing Thief 3 as we read.

I only played the first hitman and found it too restrictively restrictive for my game playing style.

I like to take my time and reconnoiter the area and choose my own routes.

Did the later hitman games get better in that respect?

So far I like Sniper Elite even though some of the later missions are a bit restricted time runs.

What are some of the sniper games you like. I am always interested in finding ones I missed.

Not a fan of the Thief games. I love the concept, but not the execution. I bought Thief and Thief 3, both times hoping for a great stealth game, and both times what I got was a game with solid stealth mechanics but rubbish AI and terrible NPC dialogue. If Thief 4 fixes those problems I'll definitely buy it, but if it's more of the same I'll give it a miss.

More than you could possibly imagine- I urge you to pick up Hitman 4: Bloodmoney Its dirt cheap now and has not a single dull moment, there are some really VERY creative ways to complete your objectives, including an exploding BBQ and and a falling grand piano to name a few oh and....

Sniper Elite is the most current one I have. The other ones I liked are ancient now (delta force series, and swat 1). Can't really think of any others that were at all realistic.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior. I've it downloaded, but never installed.

Anybody tried? Is it any good? I liked the Sniper Elite game, but even on the hardest difficulty settings its too damn easy.

Few people actually enjoy a game where you find a dark place to lay down, and wait for quite a while before you take down your target, but... I LOVE IT!

Yes, playing Thief 3 now for the first time. For the people here that like Thief series, I would seriously recommend Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. You can play different roles in the game, one of them is as Steath Assassin, with rope bows, bows, daggers, and all in some huge castles and scenarios, I think I finished the game as an assassin about 10 times, never played the other classes, lol.

Thinking about it, in all first person games I always tried to be assassin, in all shooting games I always was a sniper. I loved hitman and I love Silent Hunter.

Maybe I'd addicted to steath?

I have played trough Thief 3 several times. It's a good game, but I still prefer Thief 2 out of them all. Can't say I'm looking forward to Thief 4, as I have somewhat lost interest in the series. Will definitely read the reviews and consider buying it if the game turns out to be good, though.

As for Hitman series that were mentioned, I too recommend Hitman 4. It's light years ahead of the previous games in the series, though 2 and 3 are very good too. My only gripe is that they can't seem to find the balance in the difficulty. Hitman 4 is ridiculously easy. In most levels you really don't need to work much to get the best rating. Just grab a guard's uniform and 99% of the time you're all set. Though that's just the easiest way: the game offers many variants and ways of getting the best ratings, but sometimes it just feels pointless. On the other hand, in 2 and somewhat in 3 the guards are way too paranoid.

A similar, though less well known stealth game I remember, is Death to Spies. It's quite difficult and occasionally annoying, but my memories from a few years back are good. It's probably also pretty cheap by now, so I recommend at least giving it a look.

And when it comes to sniping...call me weird, but the only game where I have even remotely felt like playing a sniper is Far Cry 2. It's the only game where I remember using a sniper rifle from somewhat realistic distances. If such situations appears in other games these days, they go along the lines "climb into this conveniently placed tower, read a tutorial message about using a sniper rifle, shoot the bad guy, climb down and continue playing Rambo". Sigh. Far Cry 2. If only it had the modding community and potential like Silent Hunters do...

Problem with Far Cry 2 was that the sniping was not at all realistic (no wind or bullet drop).

For me the best sniping was always in the Delta Force series (1, 2, & Land Warrior). That game did have drop and wind and the like, along with adjustable scopes. You could snipe at ranges over 1 km.

Far Cry 2 is full of such problems, hence my wishes for a decent mod community. Every now and then I dig it up from the bin and try to play trough it, but in the end I just become angry with all the wasted potential it has. The good stuff is mostly already there: it's about removing the bad stuff that makes enjoying the good stuff difficult. As it is, it's an average or good game. But it could have been just so much better.

But that could be said about many games.

I dont think the issue was with lack of interest in modding the game, but that the game doesn't make it possible
