Yep, you guessed it, greenhorn here. I am really excited to make some mods however, this forum is a bit overwhelming to the new player. I have installed via Steam, SH IV and the version is V1.3. I have downloaded TMO v 2 and 2.1 and used the help provided on MOD Installation Step by Step. However, when I try and load the game it hangs and I get a lot of error messages. I then tried to install the 1.4 patch. It wont work after I load it into the game folder.
Can I go from 1.3 to 1.4? If so, how do I uninstall with Steam?

Also, what would be a list of must have MODS that can be played with 1.3?

Help, I am very excited to play this game, but want to have it modded nicely too.

Thanks in advance.

Ahoy Gisher,
Welcome Aboard! If you're gonna' play TMO, you need to patch up to 1.5. That's the last patch from ubisoft (I think). This will give you the U-Boat Missions as well. Most of the Mega-Mods out there need version 1.5 as a platform.
I was playing 1.4 with a bunch of small mods and it was OK but nothing compared to TMO.
You definitely don't want to run less than 1.4 at all, way too many bugs in the game. You can get good cheap down-loadable versions of 1.5 from the ubisoft website for around $10.00 U.S
In the meantime, if you play 1.4 you can load up on some of the smaller mods in the downloads section while you get to know the game a bit.
Good Hunting.:salute:

Welcome aboard!

First, do a complete uninstall, including any folders SH4 put into your "My Documents" folder (all this assumes you are using Win7).

Then reinstall SH4 basic to a new directory not in either of the "ProgramFiles" directory. I use "C:Games\Ubisoft\SH4\.... Next apply the 1.4 patch, and then the 1.5 patch (it basically adds the U-boat missions, but you need all of it anyway). If you have added JSGME (see the downloads portion of this forum) you are ready to activate some of the mega mods. I prefer TMO2 patched to TMO2.1, and then RSRDC with its corresponding patch.

That will get you off to a good start. Good Hunting!

Just for the record...

Steam was never kind to mods in my experience. I tried to edit some Portal files after it was offered free on Steam, and it totally locked up the game...

I hate steam too.

I would get 1.5, but if you can't or don't you can run older versions of most supermods, including TMO and RSRD and add several smaller mods if wanted. You'll lose some of the newer stuff, but still makes a great game.
