The less we pay, the less we get in return. Americans pay less taxes today since 1958 and is ranked 32nd out of 34 of the top tax paying countries. Chile and Mexico are 33rd and 34th. The Republicans are lying when they say that we pay the highest taxes in the world and are only attacking taxes to reward corporations and the wealthy and to weaken our infrastructure and way of life. So next time you object to paying taxes or fight to abolish taxes for corporations and the wealthy, keep this quote in mind…
“I like to pay taxes. With them, I buy civilization.” ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

What a stupid list. If Republicans, you know that top 10% you liberals keep trying to vilify stopped paying for that stuff how long do you think we could fund it? About 30 seconds. Like Thatcher said "Socialism is great until you run out of other peoples money".

Tell ya what Feuer Frei, when my government stops wasting my money i'll stop complaining about the taxes they collect. In the meantime I'll expect the benefits i'm forced to pay for.

Typical Liberal misinformation. Sure there are a handful of Right-Wing idjits who run the "hate taxes" bandwagon, but most of them are more centrist that you would think, and realize that taxes are a necessary evil. The problem isn't the taxes themselves, or the use they're put to. The problem is the attitude in Washington and a lot of states that taxes are a good thing. Let's call it Democrats who "love" taxes, and make the opposite argument. If taxes are as good as you think, why don't you just tax us all at 100%, set up whatever programs you think are important, and then give us what you think we need to live on?

Oh, but then you couldn't make fun of the people who "hate taxes".

August, it's the same here in Australia, and dare i say it in a lot of countries.
Taxes, taxes, taxes.
Tax everything is the motto, and tax more more more.
And as for governments wasting money, or misappropriating funds or misdirecting the money from taxes, it happens here too.
It frustrates the hell out of me that our hard-earned taxes are mis-used or inappropriately directed somewhere else.

Its not that I hate taxes, I hate unjustifiable taxes. I hate paying for illegal immigration with my taxes. I hate paying for unnecessary wars with my taxes.
I hate paying to have the local D.O.T. repave the same road they repaved last year with my taxes. I hate paying for governments corrupt pork barrel projects with my taxes. I hate giving billions in aid to some third, second and even first world countries when my fellow American's are starving, unemployed and turned out on the street with my taxes.

Its all about accountability and our leaders (R) and (D) have almost none anymore.

+2:sign_yeah: I love the liberal hypocrasy when they vote to raise taxes, then they exempt themselves and their cronies from the tax.

The internet one is a riot, whatever...who makes the chips for them, not gov't.

Time to get off the friggin gravy train and vote for new people.
Easier said than done.
The problem here 'seems' to be that the majority rules and the majority seems to always vote in the wrong people.
The majority also seem to only be interested in the media's crap that is meant to inform you of a political partie's ideals, goals and moral standpoints.
The majority also is less educated about political parties and has a sheep mentality.
So, you see, it is difficult, for want of a better word.

That is actually a very good list and I agree with most all of it.
If the government only spent money on those things you wouldn't hear much complaining.

It's all the wasteful spending that I or we bitch about.
It's all the freebies that so many get that stick in my craw
As mentioned pork barrel projects, wasted foreign aid etc.
A really stupid war.

Why does Nancy Pelosie need the biggest military jet available to fly to California when she no doubt has a perfectly good broom.
Some things just make no sense

I hate taxes. But I don't mind paying for 40% of them that go for our healthcare, infrastructure, emergency services...
I do mind the 60% that end up in someones pocket, be it a corrupt official, a businesman very close to a corupt official or a incompetent politician

I can't even begin to guess how many of our alleged "problems" would go the hell away if we (collective "we", not 'Subsim we') would just stop reacting, and start pro-acting.

FFS, we are a nation that put a whole bunch of dudes on the MOON, once we decided to do it. We've played a gigantic part in creating the global telecommunications industry. We built THOUSANDS of tanks, ships, and aircraft in FOUR YEARS, coinciding with a WAR.

We are capable of some amazing displays of technical prowess, production capacity, and great courage. Or at least, we were. I'm beginning to wonder a little as I watch these succeeding generations growing up "kinder & gentler" and less willing to sweat.

It feels to me that we settle today for petty squabbling amongst ourselves over which political party is more corrupt or who's on what "reality television" program. We allow our "leaders" to create "laws" to protect us, when all we really need to protect ourselves is a little damned sense. We have far more important things to do than bicker and pick over the little picayune crap like that. We are involved in two major wars. We are in the throes of an economy struggling to recover. We face high unemployment and leaders who just don't seem to get it.

We need to stop looking to the Capitol & the Capital, and start looking at our schools, our towns, cities, communities - each other. We have only ourselves to blame for our choices, and we are the ones who must hold ourselves and each other accountable for the bad ones, and reward for the good ones. Right now, there's far too much pointing at someone else.

Which also means that it falls to ourselves and our communities to HELP each other back up again. If your neighbors' house is afire, are you going to stand there and gape, or are you going to get in the bucket brigade? We used to do that, y'know. Now, you call 911 and watch until the fire department and the press get there, then you give an interview.

It ain't all about "you," Sports fans. When enough people get that, we'll start moving forward again.

You want "change"? CHANGE the way YOU move through the world, rather than waiting for someone else to change the world to suit you.

You know, I'm fine with taxes. I hate paying them, but I can live with it.

My beef is with overly high taxes. 20c per gallon gas tax is ridiculous in a town with a Ford Racing dragster shop, and where 20% of cars still take leaded gas (lots of classics in my area).

I don't want to pay for anyone else's health care or insurance. I want to pay my own way. Thats why America has worked for so long. People were perfectly content on living within their means, and, if they weren't, going back to school, or asking for a promotion, or starting their own business to change those means.

I also don't want to put in for the salaries of teachers with horrible records, that are still on the books because they got tenure.

Let me pay for what I use - because there's no damn way I'm going to pay for your crap and not put up a fuss about it.

I payed 43 percent of my income in taxes during my summer job, and I didn't even make over 1000 dollars.
