I was returning to my base after a wary successful patrol and surviving few close aircraft attacks.
And....at just a 300km from my base in Wilhelshaven...

You have my position on the map at the time of accident, so give me your best shoot.

And the best thing of all.
The stupid game could not tell which four sailors was wounded to give them the medal for being hit.

Since I already had my mission editor running , I thought I'd make you a screenshot. Always be careful when operating out of Wilhelmshaven. ;)
Also look out somewhere north of the Netherlands, there's a small minefield there too, in the middle of nowhere.
What I don't understand is why the Germans didn't take them down; since they are that close to (or even in) German waters. Anybody here know why that was? Or if the minefields were even there IRL?

I read just yesterday in WSC's book on the war that the british had up to 60.000 people working with mine detection and removal, not to mention detaching hundreds of small ships for that specific role. So apparengly it took much more effort than it seems...

The British laid minefields by aircraft as well as ships and submarines, so the Germans could have swept the area clean, and the British would just replenish them again. This was most likely an ongoing process throughout the war.

The circles then represent the minefields around Helgoland?
Then it must have bin a mine.
I almost @@#$ in my pants when i saw the picture above.
For the whole 59t patrol not a scratch and then i almost got killed by ours.

Not to mention i overlooked the 3 aircrafts trough the OB periscope and when i surfaced my u boot they wore only a 1200 meters from my sub.
God him self knows how i managed to escape with a little bump on the head.

Is someone here knows is there a map representing the mine fields like this.
In my game I only have the one showing the some naval bases.

As far as I know, the circles only represent waypoints. Along this 'route' the minefield will be laid down.

I don't know if there's a map that displays all the minefields for sh3, but if you want to check for other minefields, open up the MissionEditor (it's in the same folder as your sh3.exe).
In the top of the screen, select the start and end date of the period you wish to see.
Then, click the little 'open folder' icon, and open 'campaign_scr.mis'.
Now if you click the little hand-icon, you can move around on the map. On the map, that icon made of two triangles (like in the screenshot just above Helgoland) indicates a minefield. If you don't have the little hand icon active, you can select these minefield icons. And after selecting one of them, right-click and select 'properties'. There you can see (among others) the date the minefield will appear in game, and the date when it will be gone again. :salute:

By the way, I played five careers out of Wilhelmshaven before I read about this minefield. (Someone had the same problem as you) So I guess I was just very very lucky ;)

Bakkels, thanks for the info.

I played a lot of careers all starting from Wilhelmshaven (at lest 50x i passed try this waters) and this is the first time i run into a mine.

Thanks again as soon as i find the time i will look into this.
Maybe i will even load the last save and look the mines on the minefield it self.

OK now it is official just loaded my last save game when i was struck by a mine.
I turned on the free cam and gone underwater little searching i found some mines laing on the sea floor.
The dept under keel is only a 12 meters so it is a perfect ambush position for a mines.

The only thing that bugs me right now is DD Visible mines v.1 mod which should by the word of its creator lift the mines few metes up so they are visible on the water surface.
And despite the fact the mod is enabled via jsgme i still can`t see them on the surface.
My mines are beneath the water line.

Is there someone else who is using this mod to an can confirm that he is working OK?
