whilst in atlantic, got a order (via raido message)from BDU to refuel at Cadiz and to make it to La spezia to transfer to 29th flot.I spent ages working out how long i could stay under at what speed without co2 death, worked out the daylight hours and had one hell of a trip through Gilbralta
straights, hunted by no less than 5 destroyers at one time, only to make it to Italy unscathed to find no transfer, and orbers to dock at Brest!!!!

Do i restart game
Ignore order's?
Or just hunt in the Med now im there?

What I want to know are the raido messages relevant, should I follow them?

Am playing through SH111 comander

Hope all the people who have have helped me so far can once again give me advice

thank you S.C

Well, looks like you need to make the return trip to Brest then. Good luck making the return trip through the strait!:03:

Just kidding!
Radio messages from Bdu are for immersion only. You can ignore them if you wish.

I suppose you can take the order seriously and after you dock at La Spezia and are in the captain's office, you can request a transfer to the 29th. I don't know details on how all that works though.

Yeah...immersion only, unless you've got GWX and the Wreford Brown mod which will only give you messages to things that are actually scripted into the game.

Sounds like the game is trying to kill you... Maybe it's just tired and would like a little down time. :D

HAH!... Silly U-Boat Captain... thinking that just because you command one of the most deadly and feared weapons of a generation, that you are not subject to the inane and unfathomable whims of your nations military leadership...

If you get frustrated, just rejoice in the fact that a distant supereor's evaluation report just recieved a bullet point for "succesfully reorganized U-Boat Fleet for optimum manning and coverage of allied shipping lanes".

There, isn't that better?

Three options.

1. Reload tour last save in The Atlantic, and loose any accomplishments there-after.

2. Go back through Gibralter.

3. Reload your last save in The Atlantic, or at Brest.
Request transfer to The Med.
Although the dates will be off, you survived the transit, and earned the transfer.

If you've already docked in La Spezia you can exit and mess with your career in your documents folder so you end up in the 29th flotilla at the start of your next patrol.

I think that if your base is still at Brest, you will be teleported there if you quit any mission out at sea. So the lazy version would be just teleporting. Start a mission in La Spezia, sail out of port, sink them ships in the Med for a mission and get back close to La Spezia (if you want to keep it more realistic) then teleport. Think of it as your Kaleun and the crew leaving the boat in La Spezia and taking the train to Brest.:) BDU just wanted you to deliver a reserve boat to La Spezia and trusted YOU to be the skipper that can sail through the straits with an undamaged submarine :salute:You could then change your U-boats number to a new one to simulate getting a new boat.

This sounds like the most civil solution.

This sounds like the most civil solution.Yeah, and possibly corrupt your Commander's career in the process. I don't think so.

I suggest you investigate the file SH3gamefolder\data\cfg\flottila.cfg for which date La Spezia actually becomes operational for the 29th Flottila. (there are dates listed near the base references) Then wait around in the Med for this to actually happen. If it ever does. Otherwise I would just teleport back to base and see where you end up the next patrol. As BdU goofed up their orders, they 'll have to explain the situation to the 'Realism Police'. I wouldn't worry about it in this case.

As long as the 29th flotilla is available though, you can easily transfer to salamis that way. Spend a day in la spezia to refuel and head out to salamis. I've been messing with this between the French bases and it doesn't seem to have any negative impact on SH3 commander other than it listing your last patrol as being part of the flotilla you're transferring into. You're right about La Spezia though. I have no idea how trying to transfer there before it becomes available would effect your career.

Given all the new information, I guess I'd have to fall back to my original 3 options.

(Personaly, I'd just attemp the reverse passage through Gibralter.
Can't teleport, as the "realism" is at 100%.)

So you don't take screenshots?

I like to look at other people's, but can't take any of my own.

Fair enough...I'm at 99% so I can maintain the option.

I've dug into this a little in GWX and La Spezia becomes a German base on 1 Aug 1941 allowing you to dock at it but not as a home port (it is the same as using Thalia or a milch cow). The 'La Spezia available for operations' message is sent on this date.

You can only be allocated to this base as your home base from 1 May 1942, so if you request a transfer to the 29th flotilla you'll end up at Salamis rather than La Spezia between 1 Aug 1941 and 1 May 1942.

There are three solutions I can think of:
1. Change the radio message so 'La Spezia available for operations' is sent on 1 May 1942. Not actually true as u-boats could use it earlier, just not as their home base.
2. Change the availability date of La Spezia to fit in with the 1 Aug message. Again not true as u-boats used it as a home base from May 1942.
3. Generate a further message 'U-boats are now operating from their home base of La Spezia' on 1 May 1942. This could be a good middle ground as it stays within the realms of historic accuracy.

All three fixes are easy enough and just need a small file change, so tell me which you'd prefer and I can talk you through it.

For my own interest, which supermod are you using? AFAIK GWX doesn't order anyone to transfer to La Spezia...

There is a way to play at 100% and still take screenshots using the free view.
At the data/cfg folder there is a file called GameplaySettings
Open it with and at the bottom you will find the [RealismPercentage] block.
Change the values as
NoEventCameraRealismPercentage=0
NoExternalViewRealismPercentage=0
and add the percatanges in any other field so the total comes to 100%

Now you can have screenshots , but you have to displine yourself not to use the function for cheating.

Of course the whole procedure can be called cheating.
I do it.
