This was originally a thread about Osama, but it seems like I'm late
so I changed it to eurovision
so, my European friends, what do you think of this year's contestants?
I think the contestants were stronger last year, this years contestants seem weak overall
after all, I only started watching after the awesome sax guy from last year went viral
well the contestants:http://www.youtube.com/user/eurovision?blend=5&ob=4#p/c/3F6EA31E3191A8FE/0/vkm6hCiuyXw

Is it that time of the year again?
Never cared for it, will never care for it. Never really watched, will never watch.
I do have to give them some credit though. Some 5 years back my mom was watching Eurovision, and I was sitting in the room, when Lordi started. That got me into metal, and in no time I was addicted to it (don't really listen to Lordi anymore though)

Eurovision eh? More like "lets vote for our closest neighbours, and they will vote for us the following year" :nope:

Seems to be especially true for Eastern European countries:down:
Great!
A early night.

Our entry for the UK should be Cradle of Filth:DNah, Iron Maiden:O:
Though, seeing as how Lordi got successful with their creepy masks, Dani should do fine:D

Slovenia wont get far, like every year. Maja has a great voice and looks good, but the song itself is a piece of garbage. Written by the same people that wrote every previous (very un-succesfull) entries.
The selection (caled EMA here) has become a total farse, where you win depending on who was the author.
But Maja did win the ''most beautiful of the contestants'' award
Just want to know how votes will the portuguese song get!:haha:

Lena again or not Lena again, that is the only question. :) Can't sing for sure, but her looks are awfully cute and her moves are irresistably queer. The beauty contest she already has won in advance, no doubt.
Funny, Google search engine predicted (by search request-patterns and -numbers) last two years' winners correctly. And this year it predicts a Lena win again.

The german decision to let Lena run again and let the people choose between 4872 songs which she should sing, is so terribly unoriginal and dull...
At least Israel waited 13 years to have Dana sing again...
The most fun to watch will probably be the semi-finales - there you have all the europop-trash-stars with amazingly bad songs :D - in the finale the majority are sadly already wiped out - but still enough mocking potential :DL.
Too bad that I won't have the time to watch the finale the proper way: with friends and beer.
Also I am not terribly happy about Düsseldorf's decision to get the conmtest at all costs. For example: They build a mobile stadium, so that our local football club can play its last 3 games at home, as the Arena is occupied by the ecs. The official costs for this stadium alone are 2.8million €, estimates go up to 8. After the contest it gets knocked down again... And this in a city which has among the hightest crime rate in the state, in combination with the lowest clearance rate, where the roads look like ****e, other cultural and social programs get underfunded and its own city workers have to work under semi-legal conditions with a laughable pay....
But hey: that's Düsseldorf: they always want to look good on the outside, as we say in German: "Mehr Schein als Sein"

I am outing myself: My name is Penguin and I will watch the contest tonight! :88)
Luckily I am able to do it like I wanted, beer's in the fridge, friends not yet.
Anybody else watching the show?

I never understood why from a country which made such great music, they always send those which would never even get a gig on a sheep pasture at home.
Our entry for the UK should be Cradle of Filth:D
Im confused which singer is better....the tiny one or the big one.:D

I always thought that Eurovision was just a sketch on the Benny Hill show. :D
I have seen Eurovision and the end must be near....
The sooner the better:har:

The best act on the stage this evening was Jan Delay. This is german music, not Lena!
In a just world he would win! :|\\
My prediction: either Estland, Switzerland or France will win.
However the best song was from Moldavia!

Lena wasn't that bad.

I'm looking forward to having to apologise for my country. Wouldn't have to had I not bloody emigrated. Sigh.

Precisely...it was ruined more than ten years ago when the influx of other countries brought with them a whole new kind of bias that had nothing to do with the actual musical acts but more a case of pinning ones colours to each others regional masts.
Glad I'm at work feeling sorry for the wife who is having to watch it because the daughter wants to see it :DL

Wow, Azerbaijan, nobody of us even gave a tip on it, as the only attribute of the song was its avarageness. I am glad the the terrible musical crimes of Sweden, Greece and the UK did not win! Much too many votes for this garbage!
My prediction: either Estland, Switzerland or France will win.
That was a pretty good prediction, with Switzerland and Estland at the last 2 places :haha:
Remember: don't ask me about European musical taste!
Lena wasn't that bad.
I liked the cover version she did of her old song, together with Raab. Her new song was nothing special. I am proud however that me and my Frau managed not to hear it before. It is possible to go through life and to avoid chart music!

Hey Hey,
I watched the entire show for I am a loser. I usually watch it to see the UK get anything between 1 and 9 points but that backfired :hmmm:
Moldova was by far the best.
I still wonder why I bother watching because every year I complain about the voting system. Block nations all voting for each other simply ruins it. I have no idea what goes through there minds when they a voting. I wouldn't pick up the phone and automatically vote for Ireland or France just because they are close to me. I would vote for either the most stupid song or actually the best song (if there ever was a good song on this show) it cofuddles me.
Rant over...
Pete
and Azerbaijan wins
I didn't even know where that is before today:oops:
:o:o:o Now I've seen everything!!!
Azerbaijan being a part of Europe ?
Next time, this opera singer called Britney Spears will win, and the media will let everyone know it was the greatest performance ever seen on eurovision of course, that is a song contest more "vision" than "euro" these days. ;)

Azerbaijan officialy bacame part of europe now.
The whole Eurovistion is trash so why complain about this particular country.
No one takes it too seriously and many respected musicians avoid it.
Irish or France should have won :har:
Both tried to be original

These two could only claim to be original if they sang a Muppit song :DL

Well I was thinking of 'minced meat'. But tuna salad also works for me. Just don't expect me to eat it this time.

I haven't watched it, but a friend sent me this link, telling me the opening of the show by far was the best part of it and I should watch at leats this sequence. And I admit, it looked spectacular, with the moderators flipping out, the biggest LED screen in Europe going psychedelic, and some 40 Lena doubles and one original hopping around as if they just had won their second title. :D
