At least 250 dead, more than 162 in Alabama alone.

This season has been extremely potent at an early stage. This is just after the recent outbreak in NC and surrounding states. It's quite incredible, in one night some 120-130 tornados were reported.

It's mind-boggling.

My major sympathies to those affected in this terrible outbreak.

I live in NC and lost a friend in Sanford when they hit here.

We have two good friends in Tuscaloosa that live beside each other that my wife shows dogs with. Both houses destroyed, one just a slab left. One we've heard from, luckily she wasn't home, the other missing and no one has heard from her. They sort of shared a kennel, totally gone, all dogs found dead or missing. We fear she may have tried to save the dogs or get them to her basement. It's been searched and intact and she's not in it.

My daughter travels with them as a handler and lived there part time up until last month...scary thought.

This video probably is the tornado, heard him say it's passing Joe Mallisham Pkwy, she lives a mile of so off it from town. They said this tornado stayed on the ground for over 150 miles.

Bad morning here, with some say upwards of a half-dozen tornadoes in Maryland. We were without power for several hours, and came within a few feet, at most, of being isolated by flooding... and this is in a 500-year flood plain. Little Pipe Creek... wasn't little, was no longer in pipes, and surehell wasn't a creek no more.

That said, we now have sunny skies, some humidity, and cleanup work. By no means were we hit as hard as the folks down south; for many of them, April, 2011 may not have been Armageddon, but it was close enough to it that the differences don't matter. I've heard several folks say that Tuscaloosa, AL, is just plain gone.

Yeah, most of eastern NC is under a tornado watch (there is a real possibility of a tornado). In fact, as of this post, a tornado warning (tornado spotted visually or with doppler radar) is in effect south and west of Columbia, NC, with the storms tracking northeast.

However, this wont be anything like what happened yesterday. The Storm Prediction Center only gives a slight risk for severe weather for Atlantic coast today. Alabama got hit hard, I'm just glad it didn't really spill over into Georgia where me and my family live :o

I live in eastern Tennessee, yesterday the tornado warning were just about constant on the radio and TV. We had hail as large as softballs at work. They beat the heck out of the cars in the parking lot. Nothing like listening to cannonballs smacking the concrete.

I saw more than one funnel cloud that never made contact with the ground. We watched them form to the east of us and just marvelled at how they just kept coming. We were waiting for one to touch down near us. We have no basement at work. We are in a large steel framed building. It was scary.

This morning the drive to work was interesting. Trees were down everywhere. Streets were green with leaves. Cars on the road looked like someone had sat on the hood and beat them for 20 or so minutes with a ball peen hammer.

I just got back from Huntsville, Alabama last night. Wednesday was a day to remember... the tornado sirens began before dawn, continued throughout the day and into the night. About 5pm my hotel's alarm went off and everyone was shuffled into the ground floor ballroom. Seems a tornado had touched down a couple of miles away and was heading in our direction. I have a weather radar app on my iphone and could clearly see the tornado's approach. Fortunately it missed the hotel, but power went off and still wasn't restored by the time I caught my plane yesterday evening.

Driving to the airport, I didn't see any damage but heard a lot of first-hand stories while waiting for my (delayed) flight.

We have on average 200 earthquakes a day jim. Alright very very minor apart from the odd minor one that gets in the news.
