what are those antennas for?

Hi,

My uboat is like an Christmas tree filled with antennas and i realized that i dunno what are those antennas for:

1) what is the use for this one:

1 and 4 are for radio transmissions IIRC
2 is the DF loop (Direction finder - Dipole antenna). It allows the radio operator to 'see' which direction radio transmissions are coming from.
3 I believe is the RWR (radar warning receiver)

I'm not good enough to tell you the specific versions, but:

1: Early radar

2: Radio direction finder

3: Radar warning receiver

4: I have no idea about this one, at a guess, maybe it's for receiving radio messages at periscope depth??

Edit: for 1, if you mean the wires then yes, as TheDarkWraith says - radio transmissions, but if you mean on the conning tower, it is an early fixed direction radar set.

#1: FMG41G or FuMo29 "Seetakt" - radar device which was installed around the turret. Field of view ~ 60°, Range ~ 7km

#2: RDF - radio direction finder

#3: FuMB-9 Wanze - (FuMB = Funkmess-Beobachtungs-Gerät = radar warning apparatus)

#4: no idea... looks like a periscope... as far as i know there was no such large antenna installed inside the turret

Take a look at Uboat.net (http://www.uboat.net) and Uboataces.com (http://www.uboataces.com). Good articles about radars, warning devices and so on.

thats funny, i was gonna post about #4 also. ive added some mods and now when submerged there is a periscope that cant be retracted. at the surface it looks like an antenna though. good pics and posts!

I have seen many screenshots with the RDF and other antenna extended and am greatly frustrated by these as my boat doesn't do that. Is it a mod that causes this?
All I can find is a mod that allows one to lower the antenna. Which I will happily use if my antenna ever extended in the first place.:damn:
