Greetings,
I just wanted to share with you my experience using the Merchant Fleet Mod v3.2 (full version). This was on a WinXP SP3 Dual Core 3.0Ghz machine with 4.0GB of RAM and an MSI 9800 GE 1GB video card. I installed it the other night along with the 4GB patch. I am running GWX and SH3 Commander along with the following mods: 16km atmosphere, Open Hatch Mod, Enhanced Damage Effects, Late War Schnokel Atennas, VIIC41 Player Sub and finally, Additional Ranks. I had two careers going at the time, and both were back in base when I did the install.
The install went fine. I then set out on patrol. The first night I didn't have time to reach a patrol area nor did I encounter any ships. I saved the game at that point and all was well.
The next night southwest of Ireland (March 1941), I encountered a convoy during daylight hours and submerged to attack. I was using the external camera to check out the modded merchants and they were superb! I managed to sink three 3900 tonners and evaded the escorts in my trusty VIIC. I was submerged for some time working my way clear and to the rear of the convoy. I brought the boat up to periscope depth. Lo and behold right in front of me was a damaged tanker, dead in the water. A stern shot sent her to her watery grave. :arrgh!:
I then surfaced and proceeded some distance away, moved to the zentralle, and saved the game.
Now the problem: tonight I cannot load the career I saved at sea or the other career that is still in base. I removed with JSGME the MFM mod from the game and also from the Mods folder within SHIII. No luck. All the in base things will load, but after clicking on start, the sim will load about 3/4 of the way and then I get the dreaded error msg about a problem encountered with SHIII. It seems the problem is with SH3.exe.
Edit: I just now set up a brand new career and had the same results after I started the career.
So, I guess this means I'm looking at an uninstall/reinstall of the game. I know that one uses mods at their own risk, but I am slightly steamed :damn: about this. From what I've read it seems this mod is buggier than most.
Anyway, thanks for reading my vent and mild rant.
Cheers,
Scott
