Current State of SH5? Considering Picking It Up

I too am considering getting SH5. I read a lot of bad things about it shortly after it was released. Its been over one year now and I'm interested in picking it up.

How many of the outstanding issues have been resolved in patches? How many patches have there been, and where can I see patch notes? Ubisoft's forums don't have a sticky (that I found) about a patch. I was only able to find info on a 1.1 patch that came out shortly after release and I don't believe it resolved all of the issues, or did it?

It's so cheap now I just picked it up.

I get a CTD just about every time I play. It's gorgeous, but I can't even make it to the East coast of England.

5 isn't perfect, nor is any game, but with some modding its definitely worth a play!

I see some stuff is taken away from my first advice but then again ..there are no 100 percent correct answer out there.playstyle dependent.(and maybe some mods were part of the megamod)
The megamod is still a beta, but the more we are trying it out the better it will be :)

I just bought this a few weeks ago myself...paid the ubi store price (ouch)...took about 50 mods to get my money's worth...could prolly cut it down to 25ish if I switched to Magnum Opus...but it's pretty decent now

The game has great eye-candy, and I love having to walk around to do things, although I'm sure in reality the Captain of the boat would not have to walk up to his sailors and order them to do things, he'd call it out and it'd be done.

Airplanes are pointless, I've had dozens do flyby's and not once has one attacked me.

The game seems super easy compared to SH4 as well.

I'm going to start looking into mods right now...

This game, with just a few mods, is spectacular. Only the first 3 are essential in my book. But 4 and 5 add immersion and #6 moves it closer to the right balance.

* It worth learning to configure this by editing one of the .py files that TheDarkWraith set up. In particular, setting up the maps to have the features (and only the features) you want really refines the game.

SH5 with these mods is not perfect, there are a few annoyances, but in the scheme of things these are very minor. And IRAI will definitely take care of the airplane flying by problem.
