I don't have a "favourite band" right now-I do like Muse and Iron Maiden, never heard of Coroner and Helloween til right now (will have to give a listen after work thanks Feuer Frei)-but right now have been listening to a lot of old French standards-Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet in a compilation I bought and yes it includes that song from Das Boot: "J'attenderai" by Rina Ketty.

Monkey Rum? I think they are the suxxors.

:DHaha kidding Steve I've listened to your group on your myspace page-great tunes guys-would love to see you all live someday, maybe you could come to Switzerland to play at Montreux?

I don't switch my favourite bands easily and tend to be pretty consistent with my tastes. It has been and remains King Crimson for me since I was 17. Before that, it was Queen.

However it sure gets interesting when you get into my top 10, 20, 50 or even 100 favourite bands, but that's too many to discuss for this thread :88)

Right now i´m the folk mood: Dervish, Dubliners and such.

But my all time favourite was, is and will be: Blind Guardian since i was 20. Loved the way they co-designed the game Sacred2 with sounds and a great ingame concert.

Coroner is a Swiss technical thrash metal band from Zurich!
A 3-pice band which just kicks arse, in a big way.

Helloween, well, these guys have been around also for a long time.
Helloween is a power metal band from Germany, founded in the mid 80's.
They are pioneers in their field.

If you need any directions with any of these 2 bands let me know; i'll link you some great stuff.
Both of thse bands i have followed since day dot.

Helloween... heard them first time on an old tape from my uncle. Along with Metallica and Sisters of Mercy. Result was long hair style for over ten years :D

Please do-I mean Coroner are just 3 hours away by train from Geneva! Pretty sure they would swing in the neighbourhood on tour.

@joea

Ok, i'll start with Coroner:
They officially disbanded in 1994, however they are still listed by wiki as current.
And that is because they had a reunion tour as recent as 2010 at France's Hellfest.
However, nothing has been heard since from them.
They only released 5 studio albums, with Mental Vortex and Grin the last 2.

Let's take you back to 1988, with the song Masked Jackal, from the album Punishment for Decadence:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTlBua7mfao

next on the list is: I want you (she's so heavy) the Beatles cover song, man these guys nail it! Big Time, love this rendition:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px05vGKthlY&feature=related

Now we fast-forward to 1991 from the album Mental Vortex, with a song called Sirens:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZbfXHMAt34&feature=related

True class, and for a 3 piece they put out a heavy heavy sound.

Onto the album Grin, which was their last in 1993,
Paralyzed, Msmerised from Grin:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdwYP8Cr5lQ&feature=related

and one of my faves of theirs:
Caveat (to the coming):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaYnoOLMMk4&feature=related

As i'm sure you'll agree they have a very distinct sound, and i'll leave you to digest this offering until i introduce you to Helloween. Happy listening.

My favorite is Ensiferum. I love a lot more folk melodeath bands, but Ensiferum has been my favorite almost since I know them.

The truth is that, like several others, I have no real favorite. I have a very large collection on my computer now, and have them organized by release date and listen to them in rotation. I'm currently in mid-1962, and listening to Bob Dylan, but it ranges from 1707 (Bach Cantata) to the present, and is always growing. Of course sometimes I get a jones for one or the other and put it on, but mostly I listen to the next one in line during my morning Subsim jaunt.

At the moment, I'm switching between Fear Factory, Hybrid, and Little People.

FF - Cars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSoKp6dRUH0&feature=relmfu)
and yes, that IS Gary Numan.
(side note, the drummer, in almost all of their songs, is an absolute machine. I've never heard anybody keep rhythm with such a complicated drumline)

Hybrid - Keep It In The Family (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfUg3gqsNGo)

Little People - Breathe Again (feat Rachael Roberts) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrrShWp2tz0&feature=related)

Slayer.
The old school part of it. Mainly this one (http://youtu.be/TzqSlz5JkWU) actually I'd say, that is pretty much anchored in current affairs of some country (http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/929344Untitled6.png). Erm.

I have a lots of classics in my mind, but recently band sthat revive shymphonic rock have again captivated me, and "Within Temptation" is a great oneI used to really like them, but recently that's getting less and less. I feel they kinda betray their fans by delivering more and more pop-like songs with every new album. I'm still prepared to call them a "good" band, but they're not worth of being called Metal anymore:nope:

Besides the earlier mentioned Ensiferum, I love other folk metal bands like (in no particular order) Equilibrium, Moonsorrow, Eluveitie, Amon Amarth, Heidevolk...
And also many melodic death metal bands like Norther, In Mourning, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity.
Apart from folk metal and melodeath I listen to almost all other metal genres as well, a lot of black metal (Burzum, Windir), symphonic metal (Epica, Nightwish, early Within Temptation), power metal (Sabaton, Sonata Arctica), gothic metal (Sirenia, To/Die/For, Trail of Tears) and heavy metal (Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Judas Priest).
Besides metal I listen to many other rock genres, mainly psychedelic rock (Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix), punk rock (Flogging Molly, The Offspring) and alternative rock (Muse, The Cranberries).

Basically, how much I like music is proportional with the amount and heaviness of the guitar:O:

Actually you metalheads remind me that I do have two bands that I'm stuck listening to over and over at the moment, because I was right up front when they played the same show in toronto this week - Accept, and (especially) Sabaton.
:rock::rock::rock:

Easily the most fun concert I've been to. Rocked out hard, high-fived the musicians on stage, and all of that! Awesome music, great people  Can't stop listening to the records now as a result - I'm sure it'll slow down eventually, but I'm really enjoying it now.

Some good choices in this thread, espcially Kiwi with Muse. Black Holes and Revelations is a gem of an album. They're another one of my favorites.

If I had to pick a favorite band for the moment which, as many of you have said, is very difficult if not impossible, I would have to go with LCD Soundsystem. Electronic is my favorite genre of music and LCD Soundsystem has a mix of electronic/punk/dance that really no other band I've come across can come close to matching. Their style is incredibly unique and the majority of their tracks are deep, meaningful, and a treat to listen to.

Here's my favorite song of theirs: LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwoLACv_srQ)

Actually, I can't decide on a favorite song, so here are two more that I love:

LCD Soundsystem - I Can Change (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW8FKkVnqng)

LCD Soundsystem - Daft Punk is Playing at My House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj8JrQ9w5jY)

Yeah, and their current album and live show are top-notch! Mark, the current singer, is an awesome match for the band in voice and manner, and he fits on older material like a glove. He's not Udo, but then he's not trying to be, he's just himself and you can tell he's right at home in the band. Instead of being jaded old men, they're just having fun doing their incredible thing on stage and not giving a damn. Here's to hoping they keep on rocking together for a few more

Also, since everyone keeps bringing up Muse, I am also a fan. Saw them live in LA last year :)

They're one of the headliners at lollapalooza this year, and have promised to play all of Origin of Symmetry for the last time at the summer festivals... I'm not sure I can afford to go :( But for those of you who can, whether in the US or in the UK, go catch those gigs! Muse are an incredible live show, by far the best live-playing band of the current generation. Their production is always mind-blowing.

I'm going to be home in Chicago for the summer but I don't know if I'll be able to afford the 3-day pass this year. They've got a lot of great bands, and a few that are some of my favorites, but $215 is quite a bit of money.

But you're right, if anyone is capable of making it there, and has the means, it's definitely a worthy experience.

Has anyone happened to say Shinedown? I was never quite fond of them until I saw them in concert when I went to see someone else. Now every time I hear a song of theirs, it's then one of my favorites.

Their most recent song, Diamond Eyes was on the Expendables, and here's the song in it's glory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV0bM6_TYvc
