Hey guys, this is actually a very good question. In the major mods section, i've seen hundreds of attempts to mod capital ships in SH4 - even the sorcouf was there - but it would be nice to hear from the more experienced members of the forum on what they consider the best surface ship mods.
I, for one, am very eager to hear some inputs.

AN UPDATE ON THE MATTER:
So I installed OM and all installments, and took a chance with the Admiral Scheer. I guess most members are right: surface ships are just dull. The trouble their creators went through to make them come to life is worth of compliments, but the game just isnt' quite made for that. It has been clearly designed for subs and just adapting graphic and damage models doesn't do the trick. Some really odd situations occured. Imagine having a 11in gun pointed at an armed trawler and it still tries to ram me! WTF?!
The idea of blasting away an entire convoy has its charms, but a proper simulations has to be created for that. SH just won't do.
So I hereby abandon my dreams of commerce raiding with the big guns a-blazin. Oh well.... :nope:
