SH3 Cannot change installation path

Hey there!

After somewhat over a year of pause, I tried to install SH3 again today. The thing is that I can´t change the install path. So let me tell you what I did:

1. Enter CD
2. Choose language
3. Installshield Wizard says "Preparing the installation"
4. The message box dissappears and CD starts spinning
5. (No installation bar or anything during the install process)
6. Asks if GameShadow should be installed (I canceled that)
7. Box appears and asks if I want to register the game at Ubisoft
8. Another Box which shows the compability of my PC to SH3 and the Start button
9. After pressing the Start button the game starts normally.

So where is the option to choose where to install SH3? As I have Win7 it is now located under C:/Programs(x86)/Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII

Btw I uninstalled the game after that and tried it again to check if I missed something but this time the setup started right away after clicking on the Autorun.exe.
The thing is that according to an installation manual of the LSH3 5.1 mod (with pcitures and explanation) I should have been able to choose different options like Windows Media codec or Acrobat Reader along with the installation path and it should appear right after the Installshield preparing message box.

To further complicate things I installed Hearts of Iron 3 (HoI3) a week ago and had the exact same issue. The installation message popped up, dissappeared quickly and I got no installation progress indicator during the whole installation process (along with no option to choose the install location either).

My guess is that is has either to do with Installshield, Win7, or maybe a huge coincidence and I´m just too dumb...

So if anyone could help me somehow I would kindly appreaciate it! :)

So if anyone could help me somehow I would kindly appreaciate it! :) I guess you've made your uninstalled with the disc, and then cleaned the registry with CCleaner or similar, so that there are no "bad" files remain

My understanding is that once you've installed SH3, even if you uninstall it using the provided Uninstall feature some residual files and registry entries can remain on your system. When you fire up the reinstall program again, it sees what's left from the previous installation and just reinstalls the game in the same place it was before.

As Vendor has noted, to completely remove any traces of the game from your system, follow the usual uninstall procedure and then manually delete any files or folders that remain (including the SH3 folder created by the game in My Documents). Then run a registry cleaner program to remove any entries that SH3 made in your registry.

I recommend CrapCleaner for purging the registry and uninstalling programs. Just run a search for it in google, it is free and easy.

But in the end it didn´t help. I uninstalled everything and manually deleted all registry entries. Maybe I didn´t get them all or maybe the problem is somewhere completly different, but it got installed again into program files.

Well at least the LSH mod works perfectly although the manual stated to not install it in the default location ;)

With W7 it should reside in 'x86' and nowhere else....also the registry cleanup is of paramount importance.

Crapcleaner is well named (in some peoples opinions...I'm not yet convinced).

If you're looking for leftover registry entries, another program you can use is Glary Utilities:

I did the following, and had no problems:

Use Windows to uninstall.

Check for, and if applicable, remove any Ubisoft and/or SH3 files from Programs, and Dokuments.

Add an additional folder to Local Disk (C), called Games or anything else you might like.

When the installer asks if the location it selects is OK, manualy delete Programs, and enter the name of your newly created folder.

Then press OK.

(Something may be different in your system, but it did work without problems for me).
