SH5 auto targeting and no IRAI has been a snore fest, so ive moved onto Manual once again. I remember how to do everything (with map contacts) except i forget AOB

When i do my AOB i use the protractor. I click the first point on my sub, the second point to a position behind the ship, then the third will be aligning it to the ship's bow.

But i forget how to determine the AOB in relation to the Starboard and Port dials.

When is it port and when is it Starboard?

Thanks :arrgh!:

AOB is the degree angle that the target ship sees you (if he could).

Take the protractor, click somewhere on the target course (ahead of target)
Second, click on the target (this is the anchor point)
Third, click the last point of the protractor on your sub.

The angle is shows is your AOB. If the line connecting the target to your sub is on the target's port side, then it's AOB port and vice versa.

or an easier way to think of it is,

If the ship is going from right to left...the aob will be on the left side of the dial....

If the ship is going from left to right...Right side of the dial....This is always in relation to the front of your sub...So if you are pointing due south and the ship is also heading in a south east..he would be going Right to left and so his aob would be on the left side of the dial

...
When is it port and when is it Starboard?

Thanks :arrgh!:Silly mnemonics:

'They LEFT PORT ... at xx:yy hours, local time'

Or, ... 'If you want to board the STARlight-Express, then you need to be RIGHT on time at the (railway)station!'
