View Full Version : How did you find your future partner for life?
How did you meet, at the pub, university, car wash or on the road ...
I met her there when buying my vegetables, she stood opposite and looked at a banana stock but an empty basket, and took up the stock which was flying right heavily, so I asked her if she wanted help, she told me that she would be away on a small party and would bring something to it and the basket would consist then of various fruits, she had decided, I was wondering what fruits basket would contain in addition to bananas, and she just said something edible that can slip down and are easy and ,so I gave her tips on the various options ... when I were finished,I disappeared in the store to buy the rest of my food, then when I paid, I came out in the parking lot where she was standing with two big bags with fruit, she said her taxi was late, as I said that I can fix that, so me and her bananas and she went into my car, and then ride the two miles to the party...
College, she was a friend of a friend. We kinda hit it off at first sight. I remember chatting about computer games with her, she had just got Final Fantasy IX but I wasn't a Final Fantasy player back then however we had both played Spyro the Dragon, so we had a chat about that. We exchanged email addresses a short time later, emailed each other a bit, and within a fortnight or three weeks we were an item.

I saw her in a computer magazine. I mean, AES instruction set, 6 cores, 12 threads, Cuda support, dx11
What man can resist that?:DL
Than I got myself the money, (while humming this song:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9gtTyasEKM&feature=related)
became a rich bitch, and got me my parter of my dreams.
She will be with me for the rest of her life, which will end when visual studio 2014 comes out.

Back in EMT school, she was my partner for patient assessment. I got to feel her up pretty good, discretely of course :D. And then I asked her to a movie.
She replied with "Shouldn't you take me to the movie and THEN feel me up?"
We had lived together for a few years, and then on Sept 10, 2001, she was leaving for a class trip to Jamaica the next morning. Fun way to get 3 English credits. Since it was about an hour and half to get to the airport, and it was a 7am flight, we decided to stay the night in Columbus.
On the way to the hotel/dinner, she asked me, seriously for the first time, if we planned to get married. I went into this whole spiel about how I liked the way we were, and Enjoyed my freedom and yadda yadda. She was crestfallen. I could literally see her deflate. The ring was in my pocket the whole time.
So we're at dinner that night at her favorite restaurant. I waited till dessert and then got down on my knee and proposed. She was so confused she thought I had found the ring on the floor. Then she realized what I had done earlier, and after she said yes, beat the crap out me.
It was worth it.
Then.... the next morning, I get home and turn on the TV to see all that happening. And she's stuck in Detroit for 2 days. Took her till midnight to get a hold of me and tell me she was ok. School eventually sent a bus up there and drove them all back.

I wouldn't say that. You don't know what I had put up with and endure for 7 years before I finally had enough and got out of my previous relationship.
As for she who found me..... we're engaged. :D (And yeah I did the Proposing. LOL this isn't all one sided ya know )

The first love of my life I was 16 :DL and crazy about this girl who lived in another town I would go to my grandmothers at the weekends and at night I would sneak out and go see her we were in love - puppy love that is and went out for 4 yrs then one day I went away for the weekend only to come back on Monday to hear that her father and her had a big argument where he sent her down to her mothers to live which is in the south island to far to chase her so I moved on but I was so broken for a good couple of months. About 10 or so years later we bumped into each other and I could see I still had feelings for her and she the same you just know by the body language, we talked for ages then went our ways as we were both married.... with kids :damn: I never loved another woman like I did with her, even my wife (exwife) came 2nd to her. Just wasn't meant to be.

After My first marriage fell apart I felt so crushed that I joined the Army and jumped out of Aircraft for a living. I did what your not supposed to do in the Service.
I volunteered for anything that sounded remotely dangerous or extremely hard. For some reason I felt I needed to prove to myself I was A real Man and not some loser.
After the Army I did alot of travelling on different jobs and was full of confidence again. So I got married again.
To the Wicked Witch of the North!
I bailed out of that marriage after less then 2 years of being beaten!
She was a short little thing but broke my nose more then once and had a wicked way with a cast iron skillet!
:haha:
And NO!! I never ever hit her back!
Before I married 'The Witch' I had a friend that I worked with in Bands.
He had this really Cool wife that was just so damned friendly and easy going, that I always envied him!!
When I was married to 'The Witch', they divorced.
About 3 months after left wife 2, I ran into her and jokingly asked her when we were going to go out.
I was floored when she said "let me take my date home and we'll go out now"!
That was a real mind trip to ride with them both as she dropped him off at home.
That was back around 1993 or 1994.
I asked her to marry me at a KISS concert a few years later and gave her a ring.
We actually rode to Gettyburg PA on our Triumphs 5 years ago come July and tied the knot.
I'm thinking I might keep her around for awhile.
:hmmm:

I met my wife when I worked for Goodyear as a service manager. She worked at a company named Parts Plus. She would take my daily parts orders that would deliver at night. Over a period of months and many flirting phone calls I asked that she send along a picture of herself in my parts order. She did so. The following days we made plans for her to come to my service center after I finished working and we go out for the night. We dated a year and married. Tomorrow, April 16th will mark our 17th year of marriage. We have 2 beautiful daughters.

I met mine at a dance club. She was sitting in a corner turning down every guy. It was a bacherelorette party. I asked her to dance and got the sweetest "no thank you." It was love. I went to my usual tricks, befriend the fatty of the group and got a seat between them. I ignored her and talked with the fatty. This showed her I wasn't shallow. Told the fatty I was into civil war reenacting and the mark heard. She was big into history. We then got into a two hours discussion over history, finally danced. I didn't ask her out, just said I hope you come back, but she said clubs weren't her thing. The next night she showed up alone....muhahaha
After that I spent 11 months dating before anything sexually happened. That was a first and it was refreshing. We mostly did auctions, history and sat on the back porch of her log cabin talking until the sun came up. I finally got to know someone before the love word came up. We dated for years and been married for 15 years and I've never once thought of cheating on her, nor have I had a single doubt about her. We've seen many hard times, but quitting never came up.
Only got a few pics on my game rig, but here after a few years of dating with my bro's daughter, guessing mid 30's

My wife and I basically met in college because her roommate had a crush on me.
We were working in the same student job, and she invited me over to have a look at her plants -- she was very proud of getting her own mini-garden going in her dorm room -- and while we were talking there, my wife-to-be came out into the living room and said hi.
We added each other on ICQ and started chatting. At first, it was just cool because there was someone on my contact list who I knew in real life!
Before long, we were dating - and we've been married for nine years now.

Quite a story and unusual set of circumstances involved in meeting my wife Jenny.
First off we both attended the same high school but never met, my first serious relationship to a girl named Louise lasted for around a year and a half before we split up, during this time Louise's younger sister was best friends with Jen's younger sister but still didn't cross paths, Jen's best friend was also close friends with my sister but still didn't meet. Later I dated another girl who introduced me to horse riding, I then broke up with her after I discovered she was only 15, though I thought she was around 17!! I noticed that a lot of girls went horse riding but virtually no males so I purchased a horse and found a place that agists horses, this is where I finally met my wife, and BTW another unusual thing is that both our Mothers have the same birthday!! We married in May 1976 and we are still very much in love.:yep:
In the pictures below taken a couple of months before our wedding, Jen was 22 years old and I was 24 years, when these pictures was taken.

Aww, I don't think the Four Word Story Game will ever be the same again now, Reece! :nope: Where is the story of the homosexual midget parties, the sheep? Disappointed - very!
-------------------------
My story? A friend arranged to meet a girl, and her two friends, with two of his friends (see where it's going...), in a bar in the Dolphin Hotel, Cleethorpes (to save Vendor time!) in September 1993, just a few weeks before I was due to join the Air Force. Nothing was expected, but all three girls were beautiful, and we hit it off. My friend who arranged it, went out with his girl for about four years. My other friend went out with the other girl for only about a year. I went out with Eve for about 2½ years, I did join the Air Force and I think the culmination of constant travelling to see each other and the fact I had a wandering eye (but only eyes!) didn't help. Then in 2002 I got my own PC, and joined Friends Reunited, where Eve got in touch. Met up again in 2003 just before I went to Iraq and when I got back home in that August she'd left her husband so we moved in together. All was going great so in 2007 I faked a heart attack (:yep:) and got her to agree to marry me - in fact I agreed to her!
I'd woken up one morning with a tightening of the chest, went downstairs to make her a cuppa to wake her up and had a shooting pain down my arm, profuse sweating and still this chest tightening. I got back up to the bedroom and she woke up and looked at me a little worried - I told her to get dressed and drive me to the hospital, which she did (after seemingly taking forever to choose something to wear and driving at/below the speed limit 95% of the journey :nope:. So eventually I was all wired up and had Eve on one side and my mother on the other when a nurse asked who was next of kin - they each looked at the other expectantly! A couple of hours later I got moved to a ward and Eve returned saying that Gretna Green could fit us in in three weeks time which coincided with our planned holiday to the Lake District. All I'd done, apparently, is strain a muscle in my chest when I'd been moving some domestic appliances the previous day. :o
So fifteen friends and family came up to the Lakes with us and saw us get married, then we decended on a local hotel for a meal which when they saw it was for a wedding they pulled out all the stops and gave us a great time!
The best bit is we didn't cater for 100+ people we didn't really want there, nor did we have a wedding photographer telling people where to stand whilst the others slowly got bored. The week, including the holiday for four and the wedding, dress and suit cost us less than £1000.
On the following Christmas Day we drove up to join my parents in the Lakes for a couple of days, my wife said she thought she might be pregnant. My response wasn't favourable (two step-kids was more than enough!), and test after test came back negative - proof enough? :yep: No, she insisted and eventually one came back positive. I barely spoke the rest of the time there and it took up to the first scan a few months later for me to even begin to admit she might be pregnant. I eventually came round and Heidi was born September 2008 and now is the center of my universe :D:D:D:D:D

That was actually a nickname we gave to one of the two Drill Instructor sergeants :yep:
Damn!!....I should have done a Vendor and stretched out to three separate posts :DL
I've a few comical ones which I'll post later but not the one of me brandishing an MP5 because I wasn't firearms trained at the time and my buddy who was and gave me his weapon to hold was just out of camera shot and was 'sh!tting bricks' for years because we told him he was in the picture :rotfl2:

I used to a “road warrior” of the first order of stupidity: a couple of hundred flights a year, five or six cities every week. You know, the kind of schedule that you look back on years later and say: “I must have been out of my mind.” Anyway, I was getting settled into my aisle seat one afternoon, so I was spreading out my work stuff onto the vacant window seat next to me when a voice said “Excuse me, but I believe that’s my seat.” I don’t know whether my groan was audible or not, but I doubt the look on my face was very welcoming…until I looked up and saw the most beautiful woman I’d ever laid eyes upon. Stick a fork in me. I’m done.
I won’t bore you with the details of what happened next. Suffice it to say that I still have my boarding pass for that flight: Seat 15B, Delta RIC to ATL, April 21, 1994, and we’re still seat mates. Best. Flight. Ever.

I've played the "Which one's Jim?" game before, so I have to stay out of this version.
Oh, I almost forgot. A friend's wife pointed out that the thread title does not specifically say what kind of partner, and she says I should have answered "In 1965, when I picked up my first guitar". :D
My story is, well, I don't think I've met her yet :wah::wah:
I have the curse of being the nice but indecisive, well-meaning kind of guy. Which has brought me many a good female friend, many of them for life no doubt, but they always get snapped up by the bolder types. My problem in a lot of ways, working on it though!
Ah well, I hope one day I have a story to tell like the rest of you happy folks here :yeah: Good on all of you happily engaged/married types :yep:

Well the first one I met her at my first duty station Davis-Monthan in Tuscon Arizona she worked in comms. All though I met her at a dorm party. We did not last to long got the marriage annulled just two young people thought they where in love and where not I was 19 she was 18.I do still keep in contact with her though she has done pretty well and has a few children.
My current wife I did the mail order thing best money I ever spent....just kidding:O:.
I met my current wife on a plane flight home on leave from Germany and we where sitting beside each other we just hit it off I suppose I cant stand to sit on a plane for 10 hours and not talk to someone. She was about to finish her last year of college in the fall and was on a trip to Europe. What hooked me was that she was a very intelligent person and we just seemed to click I was not wearing a uniform so that had nothing to do with it.After a year and a half of long distance we got married. That was 12 years ago now so far as I can tell we will be together for a long time.
One of those thongs I suppose some people will never get married others will get married more than once sooner or later you find someone that you put up with(or that can out up with you).
I would say dont spend too much time looking for the ideal woman because you will not find one and you will miss out on one that probably would make a good spouse.I dont know about other guys but I would say that my wife is much like what I would also consider a good friend(though there are some differences) someone that listens to me but also will tell me that I am being a moron if I am acting like one and I provide the same things to my wife.

In my case it was a roundabout path to my beloved. Some months earlier, I'd met a young woman ("L.") through a personal ad in the paper (that's how long ago this was). The chemistry wasn't mutual, but we got along well. Later L. invited me to her friend's birthday party. I'd never met the birthday girl ("J.") before, but I figured why not?
Good thing I went! J., whose birthday was 6 months before mine, was quite a stunner (and still is). Though I was instantly smitten, I assumed she was out of my league; like most beautiful women, she appeared to have more than enough male attention already.
In fact it wasn't until three girlfriends later (awful of me, using relationships as a unit of measurement!) that it finally dawned on me that J. might be interested in being more than friends. I think she was accustomed to being chased, and her signals were just too subtle for this blockhead!
Looking back, it's probably just as well that it took as long as it did. A lot of success is in the timing.

As we say in my parts: Marry in haste, repent at leisure.
