Two VERY lucky people, though how hes going to explain this to the insurers should be interesting.

The one positive is the fact they both got out of the car relatively unscathed.

Police are currently investigating if excessive speed caused the crash... The road has a 50mph limit. What are the odds?

A 20 year old driving Daddy's supercar with a 19 year old babe in the passenger seat? Seems most unlikely he took it much over 52 or 53... :p2:

I wonder what kind of parents would allow their son to drive a 600+bhp supercar.

I'd certainly let my son drive it....but I would say that seeing as how I don't own one :DL

:nope:
being 20 myself, raised in an income state that demanded the beater first car, I'd gladly fly to germany to punch this kid in the face.

The Gumpert Apollo is quite nearly the closest thing you can get to a purpose built race car. how you lose control over a turn, driving quickly in a car with downforce...sickening.

even I've had some track time. If daddy-o could afford that much, he should have afforded to go on the nurburgring and teach his kid how to drive the car fast. if he could have done that much the kid woulda kept it on the track. A gumpert Apollo is enough to get a girl, theres no reason to push the point further by showing off how fast it goes without knowing how to do it right.

"It's capable of hitting 62mph in under three seconds."

Dear gods. You don't need a license for that.

You need LAUNCH CLEARANCE.

I'll never forget doing a job for a rich customer. The kid turned 16 and his Dad had him a brand new BMW in the drive. The kid almost went into tears about it not being the right color and walked away mad. Two days later a different color was in the drive...

I wanted to pull off my belt and put him across my knee

powered by a 4.2-litre twin turbo V8 engine, from Audi

Dad is eagerly awaiting insurance check- so he can buy a real car.

More likely, Dad is trying to figure where to hide what remains of the kid... since the insurance company would likely not cut a check if the accident is proven to have occurred as a result of a violation of the laws of the land.

I don't think he's too worried about is. If he's got enough money to let his 20 yo son drive a 275,000 car , he's got connections to get the insurance co to pay off.

If not he'll claim his son took it without permission (theft) and ins will pay him.

Win-Win.

But without the proper experience, down force won't do a damn bit of good.

You need speed for downforce to work, and unless you are experienced in how to take corners at high speeds, you're just not going to do it. It almost feels like theres no way the car can hang onto that curve, yet you have to go faster to stick it. It's very counter intuitive.

TG's review of the gumpert:

And interestingly enough, while I couldn't find the gumpert, the Audi R8 V10 was on there, and progressive quoted me just over $600 a year for insurance. Not bad. think i have to go buy a supercar now, as I can afford the insurance.

Well £275k may be a small price compared to if he'd done the same in a fiesta, or punto, or any other small boy-racers car where he would certainly have been more seriously injured!

If he claims that his son took it without permission, the kid will be done for theft. He's defiantly in a Lose-Lose situation.

Forget the belt, I'd take the car he refused and then give him an old bomb in the colour he wanted! Everyone's happy then!:yep:

I hate seeing kids in high powered cars for their first cars. The amount of P platers here in Australia I see driving 3 series BMWs, V8 Fords and Holdens and various Japanese sports cars (S15's, R32/33/34s etc) is appalling.

The kid is lucky he survived the crash, luckier still he didn't kill anyone else with his antics.
