I know its been asked, and before I would have really chosen HOI2+DD/Armageddon.. but after seeing some reviews, plus reading Raptor praise it constantly has made me want HOI3 as well.

Mainly the only reason I want to get Hearts of Iron 2 Complete is that it has more support (CORE Mod is whatI'm after) and a longer time span.

However, HOI3 has a Mod similar to CORE that seems pretty cool, but has that nasty 1947 end-date..

What to choose?

Ok sorry jumped the gun on that one. Bought HOI3 on Steam for 19.95.

Now, I have the option to buy HOI2 Complete for Mac at Gamers gate for 19.95, or get Semper Fi (HOI3 Expansion) from gamersgate for the same price.

My question is, if I buy the expansion on gamergate, can I load it onto a steam game?

Unless gamers gate gives you a cd key that you can activate in steam. No.

Ok; so this is basically going to become my HOI3 How the hell do I play this game thread for me.

First question:

I'm Germany, 1936 just trying to grasp the mechanics. I think I've got the chain of command part and all that, but I'm now running out of money and some of my resources are in the red. In the diplomatic tab I set it to AI Control and Automatic Trades. Does this not mean that the Ai will try to trade for resources I need?

Whats the problem?

By setting automatic trade, the AI should try to make trade deals that you need to maintain a stockpile of resources, but if it's not doing a good enough job you may need to control the trading yourself a bit. Running out of money can also be a problem, as you won't be able to pay for the resources you are importing, in which case you need to export more of the resources you have (You might be able to produce more money with excess consumer goods too, but I can't remember what the conditions for that are).

Ok, first... red resources... Your stockpile is getting smaller. You are using more resources then you produce. The solution... Say Hi to Poland. :D

Still in 1936 so that's not an option :O:.

Also, raptor I found out what my problem was, the AI was trading, I just thought it was trading resources for resources as in HOI2. Figured that my factories produce $$.

Ah, only nations in the Comintern can directly trade resources, others have to use moneys.

Bah. Playing as Germany so no go on that.

Ok, so I cheated a little and gave myself a bunch of SS Inf and Armor Divisions as well as a strong PanzerWaffe. I've suceeded in re-occupying the Rhineland, but now France is mobilizing and I don't know how to get the Anchluss going. I want to just invade Poland or Czech (not because of damn Sudetenland Forts..) to see how the AI works. So I put three Panzer Armies under Ai control (Green Flag?) and send the HQ to the area I want them to operate in figuring it'll position its forces accordingly.

Nope, all my HQs are on the Polish borders with their respecive divisions still in Northern Germany.. what the hell?

Note: This is just to test the army AI and how OOB stuff works. Still a pain in the arse to me..

Cheers

Did you give them an objective and a stance? Also are they assigned to the right theater?

Ya you have to give them an adjective and stance. You can also give them a route to "follow", and more then one adjective. On a side note. If you want your armies (AI) to form a line of defense on a border, you need to set a defense adjective (or a few) in enemy lands, so they will line up.

Well, they're all part of Berlin HQ (Theatre)

I set the Army Group HQ to green flag with the Prepare stance. However, I right clicked on Prague, but the "objective" bar didn't update. Just said no objective.

Krauts, to make money(and I forgot to do this in my current Greece campaign until about a year in) I usually sell supplies.

If you're not building anything, or making any units, go into production and set Consumer goods, Resupply, Upgrades, and Construction to as little as possible(right clicking the bar will set it to the minimum you need). Then set supplies to highest as possible. Start selling the stockpiles of supplies to countries that need them.

As for the Chain of command, get the Semper Fi expansion, It let's you select which territories belong to which Theater, it should simply your problems.

Still trying to see if I can get it off of GamerGate to see if it'll work... Otherwise I'm stuck.

Bloody hell, set AI Army to attack and they rolled through Poland. Tried the same thing with France and no go.. stopped me in Belgium

I tend to direct major operations myself and let the AI handle minor fronts, that's pretty much what it was designed for. Not that it can't handle large scale assaults, especially after SF, but usually you're better off controlling those yourself.

Something else you can do is instead of giving the AI Theater or Army Group attack commands and letting it do all the work, is give it orders and axes of advance (By shift-clicking) on the Corps or Army level, thus letting the AI move the divisions and brigades while still keeping control over operations.

Aah I gotcha, I hope I have a save before I attacked France... this way I'll be able to try again :D ...

Dam, full up on spies in Austria encouraging our party (NSDAP) in Austria, yet still no rise. Need 50%+ for Anschluss and I only have 3% :dead:

I think you're only showed the popularity of the party (Or, rather, what your spies tell you of the popularity, since they could be wrong, especially when not set to political espionage), while supporting your party with spies will increase the organization, not the popularity. Of course as the organization rises the popularity will too, but I'm pretty sure you can do the Anschluss if the party has a high organization as well as if it has high popularity.

What the *******...

I bought Semper Fi this morning, had an issue with Paypal and got it resolved. So off I go to practice figuring I can update to ICE when I get back. Wrong. Update the ICE version and get a ton of CTDs, poke around and can't find a reason. Go to post on the forums;

Sorry you cannot post until you are registered.

wtf? Alright, so I go to register... Codes don't work for HOI3 (Too short) or semper fi (too long). What the hell!?

So i send in a support ticket and wait, I go back and read the ICE forum and see something about a checksum. Check mine and it's really different then what it should be. Realise then that my version of Semper Fi is 2.00, not 2.03c...
:damn: Alright so I go to Paradox figuring, you know they released the game they'd at least have a patch right?

No. No one on the whole goddamn internet has a Semper Fi 2.03c Patch available for mac.

FFS. I'm buying a PC the next chance I get. Frigging piece of crap conversion rules. :stare:

Edit: K I realise I can play ICE now because there is another user on the Ice forum. I just need to register my game I think to get the patch.. Stupid Paradox. Stupid Steam. Stupid GamersGate. Why the hell won't my activation codes work :damn:
