View Full Version : ? Need to restart ?
First post! Great forum. I really enjoy reading most of the posts between playing SH4. Just downloaded TMO and I wish I did long ago. I just finished my second patrol so I'm not that far into the game. I read about TMO 2.1 and just down loaded that too. I tried to install it after 2.0 while I was in port but when I loaded up the game it did not take because Hogans Alley was still there. My question is do I have to restart my career since I added 2.1? Thanks for the help guys.

:hmmm: you post problem and solution in one and same post...
But yes, you need to start from scratch. Recommend cleaning out documents\SH4 folder too btw.
Happy Hunting! :ping:
Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. I had to delete all the saved games before TMO would work. I was hoping that since it was an upgrade of the same program that I wouldn't have to. I'm just glad I wasn't 12 or more patrols into it.

Unfortunately that's not how software works =(
TMO adds and changes a lot of stuff. Your save might have one parameter saved, but trying to load that into TMO it might get another one entirely, which will cause a crash.
Likewise, removing TMO will mean your save trys to look for ships or modifications that no longer exist.
As has been said though, starting a new save should get you going
Good Hunting.

Yes you will have to start a new career game.
Why you ask?
Because the game keeps a copy of your subs configuration in the save game file in MyDocuments. The game uses this file when loading/managing your career game. It does not take the sub configuration from the games data file with a game that is in progress unless you get a new command.
When you create a career game, Silent hunter 4 reads the sub configuration from the data files ONCE, and then creates a separate copy of that in MyDocuments. It then, for as long as you command that submarine, will use the copy in mydocuments since it reads and writes to it. Hence, any changes made to the sub configuration in the games data files will not reflect in a game in progress.
Thanks for the help. I have to say this is one great mod. The visuals and sounds are top notch. It took a fun game and made it so much better.
