I'll be brief and to the point...

Is the game "playable" yet?

What are the "required" mods to make it playable?

Thanks.

perhaps you should buy the game and see for yourself instead of listening to the harsh critics around here :)

The game was always very playable, and mods have made it the king it always shouldve been.

Everyone i see that has it working and posting about it on the forums are all running like 40 or 50 mods to make it work the way they want... to me thats just insane.

You shouldnt have to go through all that... i'll just keep my money and keep enjoying sh3 and 4 i still have, and DW untill sh6 comes out... in which case i hope ubi learned a good lesson and try not to shove such a turd out the door again then slam that DRM with it to boot.
(yes i know the drm is finally dropped on sh5, im talking on future products)

And how many mods does it take to make SH3 work the way it should? More than you might think, since each supermod is just that - a composite of a great many mods.

...untill sh6 comes out...
:rotfl2:

Do you think that's going to happen?

Not really. But that's the least of your worries. Yes, SH5 still has its flaws, but the people who like it really do like it, so maybe you should give it a chance.

^This. Too many people seem to have developed a short and selective memory when it comes to the volume of mods.

SH5 = playable
SH5 + mods =playable AND enjoyable, and it's only going to get better.
Plus the fact that the price is steadily dropping it's worth a punt

While I am currently playing (and enjoying) SH3 with GWX I have to say that the graphics in the "SH5 Realistic Photos" thread do tempt me every time I look at them...but I really didn't enjoy stock SH5 when I tried it last time.

Will just have to keep dipping in this forum until I find that special supermod for SH5 - and yes, if that makes me lazy, then I am lazy and proud of it! Setting up ~50 mods is not my thing, although I value the experience learned by those guys doing it now - that is what (hopefully) will lead us to the GWX/LSH equivalent for SH5 so thank them all

You may think this is insane, but I have to throw it out there. SH4 and SH5 don't amount to a heap of dried out crap without the mods available from the subsim community. I just purchased 2 copies of SH5 at 4.60 each (US$) and thought I was getting a steal. I didn't. The only good thing is that Subsim gets $3.00. So I tried it along with my son who got the other copy. Since it isn't appropriate to use such language on this forum I'll not go into detail.

Now the idea. Mind you I just need to put it out there no matter how crazy it may sound. Also bear in mind that my brief study in law is limited to land use. UBI puts out crap and the modders make it playable. If mods weren't available would the product sell? Perhaps to those few of extremely gullible nature. I'll tell you right now, if it weren't for the possibility of mods, I wouldn't take that sorry crap if they were giving it away. Therefore, many sales of UBI produced sub sims are attributable to the availability of mods produced on the valuable time and effort of those dedicated to salvaging that useless sh*t for the rest of us. Is there a case for royalties, and one step further, is there a case to be made for the rights (and/or codes) to the sim itself? I think the modders should form a corporation, hire an attorney with donations from the rest of us and go after those sons of bitches and take that GD game away from them before they abuse it any further. Then the corporation's games division can produce a sub sim the way it is supposed to be done. I also think the free beta testing is worth something as well.

Just had to throw it out there.

Myeah, can turn it around just as easy: there would be nothing to mod if they didn't put something on the market. SH5 in particular leaves a lot of room to work with, in that it supports scripting. We were given a more or less blank slate, perhaps a template, to build and expand upon.

I think that is in fact worth something, and we can count our lucky stars that they put out SH5: the engine is gorgeous and, again, it is very moddable.

I sincerely doubt there will be a SH6 anytime soon, if at all. Think modders that are interested in making their own game should just do exactly that, rather than try to wrestle away the rights for SH from Ubi.

I commend you for your positive attitude. I really wish I could look at it that way because I'm sure you get much more sleep than I do over the matter. I get hung up on the fact that it's a product and they put it on the market as a complete product with initial pricing to match. People did not get their money's worth. As I said, I paid little for it and still feel like I shouldn't have. I feel bad for those who paid the big bucks for it. UBI didn't market it as a basic platform for modding into a customized sim, they marketed it as a ready to play high end sim. What if automobiles or microwave ovens, televisions, cmputers, smartphones, etc. were produced and marketed using the same concept? "Oh, it's a great rig, but it could cut out or quit all together on you on the freeway. However, not to worry, we set it up for fixes from the community so you can expect some great potential from this baby." For my trial and error process of modding without "soup" issues, I got less than an hour of sim time as opposed to over seven hours of dicking with it, and my hour was cut short by a disconnected message. Yes, I was royally pissed. Who said the online requirement to play was a thing of the past? I'm sure they didn't make it up it's just another example in the myriad of inconsistencies with the latest UBIcrap to hit the market.

I'm not saying your attitude is wrong, mine's just different which obviously causes me more grief. I just think that a great looking automobile with a high price tag needs to run and that same philosophy should carry through with the production of all products. I might add that it appears that the software industry is the only one where you can't return a product that doesn't work. To me these guys are no different than the snake oil salesmen of the 19th century. It's "business as usual" to screw their customers... In my opinion.

Never saw such an announcement. It is marketed as ready to play game, not sim. Out of box is very playable ... align the dots, shot and show off on u-play. To play it as a sim, thats a whole different story. Was the same with all SH editions.

Anyway, for me UBI and EA are on ban list. I will never ever buy their products again. And Im the dude who paid 50 EUR for SH5. Now Im a bit concerned about SWOTOR with a publisher like EA, but all my hopes are in Bioware and their commitment in quality releases.

You're absolutely right, they did market it as a game. I tend to classify games into simulations, first person shooters, real time strategy, etc., but they are all games. I'm sorry you got stung for 50 EUR on it. It just isn't right. I'm with you, UBI is on my banned list and EA may be as well. I'm dealing with a Steam issue now, so Steam games are definitely on my banned list. The frustrating thing is that there is no one to talk to, you're just left out there hanging. You can send inquiries, but it seems that they just blow you off. One thing I do to tap into public sentiment is google the phrase ******* you UBISoft, or ...Microsoft... Steam etc. I just did it for EA and got some interesting results.

Computer gaming is my preferred leisure. I've given up television due to the mindless nature of it and turned to the interactive nature of the computer world, primarily gaming. Here in Washington State we get plenty of adverse weather so there is no shortage of indoor time. It would be nice to sit down and have a game run as advertised.

I hope the industry can get it together because as it is, its leaving me feeling like a lone sheep on a Montana prairie.

Aye, I know where you're coming from. I didn't mean to be dismissive or anything like that, there's just another side to it, a more positive one. I'd rather roll with that than get hung up on the negative side. In the end it's just a game (granted, one you payed good money for): not something to lose any sleep over... especially not this one. ;)

I think it's largely due to expectations. I played SH3 and 4 out of the box: I didn't even expect the game to work to be honest. I was pleasantly surprised by its playability and stability out of the box, even if it was unfinished and riddled with bugs. I still bought it, despite the low expectations, since I knew the previous games were ultimately polished into gems. Indeed, for the most part by this community.

The thing Ubi lost my respect on is cutting support. I didn't expect to really get what I wanted right away, but I also didn't expect them to drop it like they did. People would call me, and others, naive for buying it in the first place, but I will always fight that. Being called naive for believing they would stick with it though, that I can accept.

The old mantra still applies: If you want something done right you have to do it yourself. That is the theme in the world today unfortunately :nope:

Yes, and fortunately there are modders such as yourself out there to get the job done. I'm am truly grateful for the mods you all have provided. I'm not a programmer nor do I have the understanding to fix these myself, so if not for you all I would be out of luck. I am a WWII history buff and the the details do make a difference to me. Without the mods I would ultimatley dump these UBI works into the trash.

In all sincerity, thank you and others like you for your work.

I love your attitude and need to adjust myself more in that direction. It's easy to get caught up in the negatives when beating your head against the wall. I remember buying SH4 despite the negative reivews, and this was before I even heard of mods. So you can imagine my plight at that time being completely at the mercy of patches. I was desperate for a subsim and figured it couldn't be that bad, which was naive on my part. I was very fortunate to have discovered this source for mods.

Thanks for your feedback. I find it a little inspiring and of a positive nature. Admittedly, I need to shift a little more in that direction in spite of these teeth gnashing frustrations. My alone time is short and precious (wife and 9 year old son) and I don't like squandering it on moments of frustration.

Well your attitude is likewise admirable. It's safe to say people like me took plenty of flak from "haters" (no offense to anyone, don't know what term to use) since release. Pretty big divide in the community at the time, but it has since faded a little.

At any rate: the game should be playable with the proper mods. TheDarkWraith has compiled his work with other mods to form a complete package. It takes a little effort to wrap your head around, but the end result should be pretty good (I gave up on SH5 for the moment. Played, and enjoyed, it at release, then modded it a bit and then put it on the shelve to mature).

Also, going back back to SH4 or SH3 isn't that much of a step back. Really, the core gameplay is the same, it just looks a little less pretty.

Maybe get onto Ubi forum and rant at them for a bit. Venting a little can do wonders.

(think my first post here was a bit of a rant at SH4. Came to terms with it soon after. Prolly would have tossed it out if it wasn't for SubSim)

Thanks Archlight. I think I've gotten the rants out of my system. Like you, I shelved SH5 and went back to SH4. I know opinions vary, but to me SH4 is a superior game with the right mods even though it is less flashy. I just upgraded to a widescreen display and experienced some difficulty with ships losing their entire skin with a hit. I posted the problem and it was solved within 24 hours of posting. This community is great in many ways.

Thanks again. I appreciate the encouraging words.
