View Full Version : To see my ship

I just installed OLC Gold Mk II. I want to play this game as realistically as possible, and I like the tools it gives.
Now, it makes it so the nav map doesn't show other ships, which is how I want it. I figure better to learn the hard way than get used to an easy way and then give it up.
However, it also does not mark my own U-boat on the map (except when zoomed way out). That's a step further than I'm willing to go. I have absolutely no idea how to find my own exact position, and if I don't know where I am, I can't tell where any other ship is.
Is there a mod that will put my ship back? I checked but didn't see anything. Barring that, if someone could explain to me how to pinpoint myself, that would be awesome.

Adding ACM reloaded for OLC 'Gold' MkII and ACM Lite Map is one way of getting what you want.

Excellent, thank you.
For some reason the chart of harbors doesn't slide out, but that's not terribly important.
Another thing I've noticed is that when the Nav map is zoomed in, and you scroll around, the bold lines move. That is to say, the larger boxes don't stay put. You might be in the box by the right side, then scroll a little and the line is now to your left. I'm too new to know whether that matters or not, though.

Yes the harbour chart is missing from the acm reloaded, but as you say it is not really important. You still have access to the shipping lane chart and speed conversion tables by moving your pointer close to the edges of the nav map screen.
edit: I just looked at my nav map and zoomed right in and yes you are right the bold line grid square does move as you scroll. You must have sharp eyes, I have never noticed that before! It doesn't matter though, the grid scale remains the same and your position marker and any plots you make on the map will stay fixed. It will not effect anything.
I just thought I'd add that if you are learning manual TDC and using the attack scope wheel to measure range and aob you might want to download the TMT mod which fixes slight errors with the recognition manual. It will help you get more accurate torpedo solutions when using mast height values. You can get it combined with a buoyancy/acceleration fix for surface ships here:

Thanks, I noticed several strong recommendations for TMT while searching for and downloading both OLC and ACM, so I have that already. It adds little red lines to the books! Very helpful.
I've spent three days getting this game set up (with another day in the middle to jump into the campaign and muck about). Now I think I'm ready to start learning the ropes.
Until i hit another snag, anyway.

No, it's no use. With ACM, it shows contacts, including even their colors and tails. The only thing that changes when you disable "god's eye" mode is that the contacts disappear when you zoom all the way in.
And that's with the "Lite Map" add-on, which is supposed to "not only reenable Harbors on the map but also brings back overlays of the sub, colored map contacts and speed trails (on lower diff levels ofc)." (emphasis mine) Even with 100% realism, they're there.
Either the description is wrong (which I doubt), or something's going on I'm too new to understand. :hmmm:

I run OLC with ACM and ACM Lite. I play with god's eye disabled and I indeed have all my map contacts removed. The description of the mod is correct, something is clearly wrong.
Are you sure your install order is correct? Are you sure you pressed 'apply' in the realism settings when turning god's eye off?
My install order in JSGME is:
OLC 'Gold' MkII ~ Option 3 ~ Enviroment with EDE and GUI
OLC 'Gold' MkII ~ MkIId Update (Enable After MkIIc)
OLC 'Gold' MkII ~ Flat Sun Fix
ACM Reloaded for OLC 'Gold' MkII
ACM Lite Map
The only contacts you should see is your U-boat's postion marker and the single ship/convoy/taskforce 'radio contacts' that will appear on the map from time to time.

p.s. CTRL left-click, and you are under your mouse-cursor.

The simplest solutions are always the best :D
I must remember this when I finally graduate to horrific realism settings...

I feel silly. I loaded up the campaign after checking my mods were in the right order. I hadn't changed anything at all, but for some reason it worked perfectly. No markings of other ships at all. I don't get it. I played all night last night and there were green boxes with tails...
The only thing different was that last night I was just doing the torpedo training mission over and over, teaching myself how to use the various fiddly knobs. I was changing the realism settings via the Missions menu. When I just now loaded the (new) campaign, I set it from that wall map in the office. I exited the campaign and loaded the training mission, and the marks were gone there, too.
Very curious. Maybe you have to change the settings from within a career or it doesn't take. But, that wouldn't explain why the markings were disappearing up close when I checked it, but there when I unchecked...
Oh well, whatever. It's working properly now, no matter what the reason. Time to hunt! :arrgh!:
It has to do with weapon officer assistance iirc. So maybe you changed that setting.

With OLC/ACM, weapon officer assistence will just give you the option of letting him ID ships for you. (which comes without a realism % penalty) He does nothing else.
You may have forgot to press apply when changing your realism settings. If you just press ok your changes will not stick. Or it could have just been down to typical SH3 weirdness. SH3 is a very unstable and buggy game, as you will find out the more you play :D
