By the time they raise it, the plan will be striped by scavengers....

I knew the British armed forces were going through a rough spot with equipment, but resorting to this is just appalling :nope:

I really hope they can recover it and restore it to flying condition. It's amazing that we chose to scrap so many irreplaceable WW2 aircraft instead of preserving them. I know hindsight is 20/20, but you'd think that maybe just a few more people would have said "Gee, this was the biggest war we've ever seen. Maybe we should preserve some of these planes and tanks instead of just scrapping them. Future generations would benefit from our foresight."
But no, of course not. Instead of having people concerned about future generations back when we could have actually used them, we get a tremendous number of people today who care greatly for future generations and demonstrate it by whining about global climate change, which they do nothing to fix and couldn't if they tried. I'll be sure to thank them when I'm standing on the Earth they thoughtfully preserved looking at an empty museum display.

When all your bombing is targets in countries like Libya do you really need to bring out the big guns? :hmmm::O::rotfl2:
I hope to see her in the RAF Museum when she is raised, will be amazing to finally see a Flying pencil in the flesh.
There's supposedly a Short Stirling somewhere in the Channel as well. The whole of the Channel is a giant scrapyard of war equipment.

And think beyond WWII. How many conflicts has England and France had? Think of all that material in there now. The channel could be it's own museum!

Off Sydney Heads here in Australia, they dumped huge amounts of surplus lead lease gear. British carriers dumped entire air wings into the sea. Tanks trucks, ammo, guns and so on.
Now the fish get to play with it!

Didn't they recover and restore one a few years ago and then lost it in an accident

Think that might have been a Sunderland, I vaguely remember hearing about one that was restored then pretty much immediately caught fire and they couldn't do anything about it and had to watch it burn to a crisp

Sorry for turning your backyard into a dumping ground. As compensation we got an aircraft carrier going spare you can have:D.

anybody else uneasy about the 2 crew members who are probably still in there? It said "2 escaped and two died on impact". Should we be messing with their grave?

They were washed ashore a few days later. There's no bodies down there. :yep: Well...not in the Dornier anyway...

ok good. Thats a relief. I'm all for history, but when you start digging up bones you need to stop. Some of these war diggers in russia are digging through bones all the time to get medals and other stuff to sell.

I have no issue with them pulling it up and finding bodies as long as they are treated to a proper burial. In fact they are still recovering bodies in the jungles of asia from WWII\Vietnam.
I feel that any soldier deserves a proper burial.

but in this case they aren't really recovering as they are more grave robbing.
