That has been recorded:
Despite suggestions it may have been a prank, the clip of a plank flying into a car's windscreen on a North Carolina highway has been revealed to be no joke.
Wendy Cobb yesterday told auto blog Jalopnik (http://jalopnik.com/#%215789082/the-scariest-car-crash-ever-caught-on-video-was-real) she was filming two vehicles playing a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse on her camera phone with the intention of sending the footage to the companies that own the trucks.
Then suddenly a plank of wood crashed through her windshield.
"The two-by-four was in the road, along with several others, but when the truck in front of me hit it, and then his trailer hit it, it just propelled it into me," Ms Cobb said.
"I don't know why I didn't scream or cuss or cry, I guess just pure shock.
"I could barely form words to call 911.
As the accident occurred last Friday - April 1 - many people assumed the video was an April Fools' Day prank, but police have since verified Ms Cobb's story.
No one was hurt in the accident.
Ms Cobb said she posted the video at YouTube because her son wanted to see if they could get more than 1000 hits.
It worked - more than one million viewers have watched the 40-second video on at Jalopnik and more than 350,000 have viewed it on YouTube.
But Ms Cobb's lucky break has come at a price. She was forced to disable the comments on her YouTube video after she was criticised for filming while driving.
However, the debate's still raging at Jalopnik. "cubist_zirconia" kicked it off today with the assertion that "the fact is, the "big picture" if you will, Cobb was engaging in exactly the sort of behavior that gets people killed. period."
"People who pull stunts like that need to be called on it. no exceptions."
Ms Cobb told Jalopnik she always films dangerous behaviour on the road and threatens the drivers that she'll take it to their boss.
Whether the plank incident will further fuel her desire to tap-and-drive is anyone's guess. For the moment, she said she's just thankful to be alive.
"I most definitely know how lucky I was," she said.
"Damage was mostly the hood and windshield, again, very lucky."
Lucky indeed!
