In celebration of the 150th anniversary, PBS is running it all week. Still the best documentary ever made about the US Civil War.

Yeah, I've got the whole series on DVD, but find myself watching it anyway. It's that compelling.

Sounds interesting. But don't tell me how it ends. I want to be surprised. :03:

Abe Lincoln wakes up in bed with Suzanne Pleshette to find the past four years were all a dream.
No wait...that's how the Newhart show ended. :hmmm:

At the time it stirred up a bit of controversy. Half the letters to TV Guide complained it focused too much on the slavery issue. The other half complained it didn't focus on the slavery issue enough. The third half complained about the talk about slavery. The fourth half thought it was great.
I complained that it was way too short and left out a bunch of good stories I had read, and missed most of the naval war. My friend Rocky laughed and told me to pull my head out of my...history books and enjoy it for what it was. What it was was great storytelling, entertaining and informative at the same time.
It's not the only great documentary Ken Burns has made. :sunny:

Some people down south would say the ending hasn't been written yet... :O:

Soon we'll ge to see the Director's cut of Gettysburg and Gods and Generals. Think they come out late May. Not sure how long Gettysburg will be now, but Gods and Generals will be over 6 hours and include other battles. Many reviewers say as long as it is, it's a much better version and when it was cut up it lost much of it's flow. Course Gettysburg was much better and I re-enacted in both.

Nevermind Ken Burns.:yawn:I can watch that series...once. Anymore, it makes a great sedative:haha:. Garrison Keillor:yawn:, hands down, the most boring narrator...and the music:down: I think they played it waaaaay too slow. The series overall is good, but GK and the music ruin for me.
funny story, When I was substitute teaching, we were watching the Ken Burns CW show. Ten minutes into the show, a girl turns to me and says; "Is this whole thing gunna be like this?"
"Yes. Yes it is and I'm sorry." I had to watch it 5 times that day.:dead::yawn::dead::yawn:
Another time when I was subbing and I got to pick the material (I was subbing for this teacher for several weeks), I had the class was "Civil War Battles, Battle of Shiloh" by the history channel:wah::dead:. It was great, the class (all periods too:know:) really got into the film. That series focuses on one point and a few characters. And in this episode, focuses on the Hornet's Nest.

Well, it was a movie for the history buffs with several bad B stage actors.
The actors still in it from Gettysburg did a good job. Overall, Lang did a good job. Duval was a let down. The beards were still terrible. Gettysburg was bad enough, but in both they lacked the proper make up artist on scene. I saw several fall blow off.

I got the nickname Armistead from my group, nothing to do with the movie of course.
I got about 2 seconds or film, when the actor Armistead gave his speech before the charge. I did die 3 times.
We did do a big dance ball scene in God's and Generals that my wife and I should be in. They use her for her looks and dance skills, me for my charm.

That's excellent. You should post a screen shot.
I enjoyed the series. I also liked the the trilogy written by Shelby Foot.
But,

........nothing is good if you are forced to do it 5 times a day. :O:

I'll have to scan some pics. I may have some of GaG's on a camera disk, Gettysburg, if digital cams existed back then, I don't have one. Course I didn't know my wife back then
