View Full Version : Never fiddling with game files again.

Bloody hell. When I started playing HOI2 I fiddled with some of the files to have quicker building units and faster techs, just in case I failed too much I could rely on numbers.
However, After seeing Egan's, Spike's and a few of Dowlys AARs I've been inspired to do the same with HOI2. Obviously it wouldn't look good if I was using a modded version ofmy game so I'm resetting the files now. Pain in the arse it is :damn:
Just a few questions to anyone who'se interested. I've played the SU a few times so I'm kind of bored with it. What countries would you like to see? I wil be taking it slow and, if I get suggestions or comments to do things from the AAR posts I will try to do it in game for you all to see. So far I was thinking of playing as either SU (if anyone wants me to), Germany, Italy USA or Canada.

You can just copy over the HoI2 directory before starting to mess with it, then keep separate installations for the stock game and modifications. I, for example, have two separate versions of the stock game, the old modified 1914 mod, Kaiserreich and who knows what else installed right now.
Hmm, been a while since we've had a HoI2 AAR around here. Let's see...Italy would be rather interesting, I believe.

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing, just making another copy of the game with the stock settings.
I'm also trying to find a way to create an event getting rid of the time limit (mac version so NoTimeLimit Patch won't work :( )
As for Italy, I was actually thinking of doing that, after seeing Oberons posts in the last HOI2 post. I think I I'd like that just because it would take the stress out of planning Barbarossa.
The only thing is.. I don't like the look or sound of Italien fighting mashines. ME109s, Yaks, Spitfire... Panthers, Shermans, T-34s.. I'm not familiar with any Italien equipment, and that which I've seen doesn't really tickle my fancy.
It all has no bearing on the game I know, but it still makes me feel good inside :D

I don't think you can remove the time limit without the No Time Limit patch (Or doing something similar to its function somehow), it's mostly hardcoded. Though with Armageddon the game ends in 1964, so you should have plenty of time unless you're using a mod that takes place out of the original timeframe.
Italy is fairly interesting, since you're free to take part in the war in any way you want without being critical to the whole thing. Canada is another nation that can similarly take part in the war like that, with the added bonus that you're pretty much never directly threatened.

As I'm currently only running stock HOi2 ARMA isn't really an option. I may just hold off on doing this AAR (I'm waiting for my PayPal to update so I can get a hold of ARMA and DD to download from D2D.
What do you think?
Also I had wanted to play Canada, but being a puppet isn't exactly tempting for me.

Is that stock HoI2 or HoI2 Doomsday? Armageddon doesn't work with HoI2, as far as I know, only with DD.
As for Canada, IIRC it's not a puppet, only Allied with the UK at the start of the game. Not totally sure about that, though.

Contains both Armageddon and Doomsday
Aah, I was under the impression it was a puppet of the UK like Iraq and Nepal, etc.
And I have stock HOI2 (without DD or Armageddon)

Ah, I see.
Well, in my opinion DD+ARMA is a fair improvement over the original game, especially with the latest patches (I'm not sure how patched the Mac version is, though). So if you're going to get it very soon anyway, holding off the AAR until you have that might be a good idea.

Yea I think I'll hold off and just play a scenario. I'll post updates but no pics. Once I get Arma and all that (next week or so) I'll do the AAR.
