View Full Version : Mission deadlines...how important?

Hello all,
Pretty new to sub games and I just started SHV, and I have some questions about the dynamic campaign.
- I've been able to complete the first two missions that require sinking 50k tons and 100k tons of merchant tonnage. Currently the only mission on my screen is "Blockade of Germany." I'm having trouble finding both the AMC ships and carrier, but have about three in-game months until deadline.
So:
- What happens if I don't complete the mission by deadline? Do I "fail" the campaign?
- Is there another way to find/accept other missions, or will some automatically appear after a certain date? I noticed "Blockade of Germany" didn't show up until I turned in the first 50k tonnage mission, but after turning in the 100k tonnage mission I still only have "Blockade of Germany" on my map.
- Finally, how does the dynamic campaign work? As a new player I could only select "Total Germany" but am curious about unlocking the other stuff. Do you start a new character/profile for each campaign or do your stats carry over?
** Sorry for the onslaught of questions. I'm really loving the game but the "Blockade" mission is frustrating me and I'd like to know if the campaign still goes on if I can't get it done.
Thanks in advance for the help! :DL

you fail to complete the mission and must repeat it in most cases you cant move forward in your campaign untill you get it right. you must "earn" your progress.
time objectives are frustrating because in most cases you just cant find the objective you are looking for if you are late

Are you sure? At least in Total German you can progress even without completing the missions. Yesterday this campaign ended in the middle of a patrol and off to Happy Times I went. I guess there´s a diference between campaign objectives and patrol (mission) objectives but you go forward anyway. Or not :doh: .

So how does this work? If I don't complete Blockade of Germany by March 1940 or whatever how would I "redo" the mission without the game turning back the clock?
I still don't understand how the dynamic campaign works - do I need to fill up the little iron cross meter for something to happen, or do new missions/campaigns start upon a certain date regardless of how much progress you've made?
If I can't complete "Blockade of Germany" by the deadline am I effed? I don't really understand how the campaign is "dynamic" if you're forced to do X mission by a certain date or its game over.

You will advance whether you´ve completed it or not :up: .

Thanks Jag!
So one other thing: what's the point of the little white crosses you earn on your campaign progress meter/chart?
Currently I have one empty small white cross and two larger ones left to fill on mine. Do I get a shiny prize at some point if I fill those up? :DL

Those crosses fill up when you have finished the objectives. Gaming purposes I guess. Do enough and you can win the war single handed :D. I never bother with them though, my side is supposed to lost the war and I feel very comfortable about it...

So it's just a cosmetic thing? You don't have to fill up the crosses for the next campaign to begin or anything?

each campaign has a number of points... these points are related at the croses... if you not have the minimum points (croses) required for the next campaign than you can not unlock that one unless you do not use ''silentotto''

It seems weird stoi, do you know how many points one must have?

yes... you can edit each campaign and see how is the minimum of points required:
you go to:
C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\SH5\data\cfg\Save Games\00000000\Campaign-2011-03-29_1946 for example
edit with the notepad the campaign.cfg
for example if you are in happy times... and you search for these lines:
[Campaign.CampObj]
Name=Campaign.CampObj.Name
ValuePointsRequired=7
ValuePointsMajorVictory=10
DateMajorVictory=19410301
DateHistoricalVictory=19410301
IsCompleted=false
IsFailed=false
DateOfCompletion=0

So are there enough missions for each campaign that you don't have to complete every single one to unlock the next campaign? For instance, if I can't complete Blockade of Germany will other missions eventually appear so I can continue earning the crosses?
So far I've only been earning small crosses. What are the larger ones for?

Ok, I completed Coastal Watters and sunk 100k tons on the western approaches, failed Blockade and that on norwegian watters. It sufficed :up: .

Nice! I wonder what the crosses are for then? Maybe its a prestige thing that earns you more promotion points/medals?
Also: When you start a new campaign, do you keep the same character name and stats?

Sory ... seems i did not was to clear... cross represents points... to complete each campaign you need points.. an minimum of points... if a mission has for example 3 cross means if you complete you will have 3 points... but for example you can not complet a mission if you take the minimum of points needed for another missions for the same campaign... when i said i do not know means i did not looked yet in that mission

I think so. Not historically accurate though, I´ve already sunk enough tonnage to earn the Swords, even the Diamonds, but only got the EK.I. :cry:
Also: When you start a new campaign, do you keep the same character name and stats?No, but maybe there is a mod or a workaround for that.

you need a minimum number of crosses to advance at all, but if you dont get them all, then your campaign gets harder. You May pass Blockade of germany by getting the minimum requirement but your campaign will get harder.

Do you at least keep the stats and abilities you earned through promotion points, or do you have to start fresh with each campaign?

Ok so as of now I earned 1 cross for the tutorial, 1 for the 50k tonnage mission, and 3 crosses for the 100k tonnage mission. I have one empty small cross, and two large crosses left to fill. If I can't finish Blockade of Germany, is there another mission I can do to earn another cross? What's the difference between the small and large crosses on your progress chart?

If you start a career you keep it througouth successives campaigns. In each campaign you start from zero (using silentotto or not) you´ve got to earn everything again. So far there´s no mod/workaround for that.
