Hi all!

New guy here and I need some help finding a mod.
Iplayed the game some years ago and had a mod for the attack periscope that made targeting much more enjoyable (imo). What it did was it changed the standard attack periscope to one where you would slide some rings over the periscope view and use them to determine range, speed and aob, also it placed the tdc in the periscope view so you wouldn't have to look away from the target to setup your torpedoes. I have been looking for it all night but I just can't seem to find it, also I am still very new to the game so please understand if I don't really know what it could be called...
all help appreciated!

Sounds like a GUI mod.

There's... um... MaGui, Hitman's Optics, I think there's an OLC gui mod...

I don't use any of them ATM so don't know what they do exactly or how they differ from one another, but you can try looking through the Mods Workshop forum for the relevant threads (or do a search and see what you come up with).

No doubt others will be along with more names and suggestions. :DL

Good luck in your search and your game!

If it has been a few years since you last played, it's very possible the mod you remember has been updated since then or superceded by something else that improved on it or incorporated everything it did. But there are lots of great current mods to choose from if you can't find the exact one, if you see something that looks like what you want don't hesitate to ask about it. We're a friendly bunch. A lot of the GUI threads have screenshots that might help you decide or maybe you'll recognize something. :yep:

Your probably looking for U-jagd Tools, by joegrundman.

Corrected links are on the last page.

OLC added them to his GUI mod, and pretty much everyone since has copied it. The original is the only version to have the tools but not change the GUI.

Thanks, Sailor Steve!

Do you know offhand (because I'm too lazy to go read the whole thread this late :O:) if use of that mod requires you to do manual targeting, or can you leave all the assistance on if you want and still use the tools if you feel like it?

Because that's about the only thing that's keeping me from trying out one of the more elaborate GUIs - I'm not ready to tackle manual targeting yet. But it would be awesome to have tools like that handy to play with and still have the assistance there to fall back on while I'm learning.

Yes!

This was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks a lot guys, I can tell that this is a great community.

Nope. It doesn't require anything. Auto-Targetting still works, as does WE Assistance. The clipboard is still there to click on as well. I stopped using it simply because I realized I wasn't ever going to learn manual targetting, even with tools, so I figured why have them if I'm not going to use them.

On the other hand, the reason I would still take U-jagd over any other system is precisely because it doesn't change the basic GUI, which means the Simfeeling 6-Dials mod works with it just fine.

Looks like I need more help...

Running stock game (steam version) and the only mod that worked was OCL but that one removed the nav map sub icon and I'm just way too green to live without that... I tried MaGUI and U-Jagd but they didn't seem to work because nothing changed... I used JSGME to install the mods.

It's been a very long time since I've had it installed, so I don't really know the answer. You might want to try PMing joegrundman. I'm pretty sure he still comes around from time to time.

Well, if you keep OLC and install acm reloaded and acm lite map also then you'll get your U-Boat contact back. ACM Reloaded makes changes to the OLC UI, mainly graphical. I use it and love it.

This order in JSGME (read the documentation that comes with the mods to avoid conflicts):
OLC 'Gold' MkII ~ Option 3 ~ Enviroment with EDE and GUI (Pick what ever option you want, this is just my choice)
OLC 'Gold' MkII ~ MkIId Update (Enable After MkIIc)
OLC 'Gold' MkII ~ Flat Sun Fix (Add this if your sun doesn't shine)
ACM Reloaded for OLC 'Gold' MkII
ACM Lite Map (This will return your U-Boat position marker)

Using the rings that slide over the scope might be slightly different from plain OLC, I can't remember the differences exactly (if any), but here is a link to some instructions from the Mod's author.

edit: Sorry! I didn't read your last post properly. I suppose you are using an earlier version of OLC which works with stock, I'm afraid I'm not familiar with it. The mods I mentioned above require the GWX3 supermod, and will not work properly (if at all) with just a vanilla install.

Perhaps this is why you had problems installing the other GUI mods you mentioned? You could try re-reading any documentation that came with those mods, and browse their threads in the forum's mod section to check their compatability with stock.

Rather than delete this post I'll leave it up as a suggestion just in case you ever decide to try GWX3. If you have never heard of it, then you can visit their website to find out more, or just browse their thread in the forum's mod section.

Okay, thanks, I was hoping that was the case. It looks cool so I may give it a try. :yeah:
