View Full Version : Question; Battle Stations
When you put the crew on battle stations, does it affect any other part other than the torpedos? I notice that they load quicker, but since the effectiveness of all stations increases too, does it allow the watch squad to notice ships sooner, or the engines to go quicker eg.?
Thanks!

as far as dives go, only a dive officer ability could let you dive sooner, and a theoretician speeds up promotion of crew and ability development. Also, the propulsion specialist makes the engine run faster while at the same time economizing fuel consumption. A watch officer ability lets you spot further than 14 km of ships and escorts, and a radioman, and sonarman increase range of hydrophone and more nearby contact reports.

It activates your deckgun/AA guns in you need them; activates your damage crew; faster loading of torps; makes all men in compartments go into repair mode..all I can think of at the moment.
As Solo said, your special ability men have many other effects if you have them. Items like visuals, sensors are basically set regardless.

It picks from the three watch bills and puts the best man into each position. If you're in the Control Room when you call for it you'll see the Engineer on watch change out with the senior man, if he's not the current watch Engineer. So yes, it maximizes all compartments.
Just be careful to only use it when absolutely necessary. Since everybody is awake and on duty they'll run out of energy and go to sleep on you.

Yeah...I've forgotten to take them off battle stations a couple of times then gone into TC and wondered why I wasn't going anywhere after a while and saw everyone was asleep.:oops:
I've forgotten to put them on battle stations too. Not quite as embarrassing though.

From time to time there have been players posting to complain that in the middle of silent running with destroyers searching for them they would suddenly hear the duty quartermaster shouting "WATCH SHIFT!" That's about the only bad thing about not calling for General Quarters.

Seriously, you do make more noise and are much easier to detect while on battle stations. It's generally still very worth it and only if you were evading with no possibility of shooting would you secure from battle stations.

Not sure I agree with this. Never heard of the game acting like this. You can engage battlestations and still use silent running. Silent running will cut the noise values down regardless even if you're own battlestations.
I have asked the question before, but never gotten a clear answer. If you're using BS and have silent running on your crew will still repair, pumps will pump water, etc..but they'll do that regardless if BS is on or not, just at a slower level, at least the men in the compartment show them repairing, pumps will state pumping. In reality if silent running was engaged, the pumps remained off, etc...Be interesting to know if and how much silent running slows down repairs...
Be interesting if BS is off do you get a lessor noise value, seems I was told you do not, that silent running controls that? If I'm evading and damaged, my BS is always on repairing my ship. Always common to be on BS when attacking or evading, to have all your best men on station.
Also be interesting to know how the noise values change when you have silent running on but crank up the speed manually.
