Hi All

What music do you have playing on your gramaphone during the game.

When I leave post I have Erika (I know its waffen SS and not marine) its a great marching song and blasts out as my tub leaves port to the cheering...
Also I have the "chase" from Das Boot when I am hunting a target.

What's yours

John

I have more songs than I can count, all popular music from the period.

I use a mod that simulates listening to the radio, it includes music and news broadcasts from the period. There are several excellent ones available. Check out the sound mods section of the Subsim downloads area or if you prefer [shameless plug] you can try the one I made "Sept 1939 to August 1940 Radio mod" there's a link to it in my signature [/shameless plug]. You can put the files directly into the Gramophone folder or even better use the Date folders of SH3 Commander so they will load during the appropriate month.

This is where I completely go unrealistic. I just put a bunch of music files I like in my gramophone map. Not realistic, but hunting down a ship in rough weather while listening to Riders on the storm is kinda cool.
Sometimes it gets a little surreal though. Listening to the Soprano's theme in a U-boat is kinda weird I guess.

I prefer the authentic period pieces...

For me, it adds an extra layer of 'immersion' or 'realism' or what-ever-you-want-to-call-it. If you Google around a bit, there's some really good WWII CD collections available. Good stuff that... :DL

Just thought of one, there's this great song in Hunt for the Red October, from a Russian choir. I think I'll add that to my playlist. Anyone happen to know the title?

I have it already, and like it... along with the others I have from here.

really I just wanted to know what songs members attribute to different scenes in the game...and hopefully get some ideas.

Thanks everyone.

The only time "game music" plays in my installation is in the main menu screens, before and after loading/exiting a mission or patrol, and in the "black screen of death" you get when you croak.

For both I use tracks from the Das Boot soundtrack. I can't remember what the one is called that I use for the menu, I think it's 'U-96 [single version]' or something odd like that, anyway, it's basically just a couple minutes of the easily recognizable "main theme" of the movie.

For the "death" screen I use 'Erinnerung' (spelling?) which is the somewhat melancholy guitar music that plays in the movie when the LI is showing pictures of his wife and home to Werner. And maybe elsewhere, but that's where I remember it from.

I don't like in-game music that plays according to the situation, it gets monotonous and intrusive for me personally. If I want tunes I play the gramophone, which is all popular music of the period, German military stuff, and classical.

There's also a version in English. I'm going to upload a new gramophone pack (or packs) at some point.
