I use both ATI and Nvidia cards, of course, in different computers, but it certainly is a difference between endurance, especially when playing games, challenging games, FPS is not so high ... hmmm show adjustments must be

HunterICX Card with Crossfire, or run with an overclocked such?

Already fried one? :DNo! No! :rotfl2:

But got an offer on the 5870 I couldn't resist, $150 - with a brand new Arctic Cooler.

My 5970 is the one in the background. Tri-Fire setup is on the way... :rock:

Isn't it terrible easy to see, I'm a heavy smoker...? :nope:

Here's a test with the "new" 5870 and 11.4 driver.
The 5970 scales very well, when comparing to test above, it's almost a perfect doubling:
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z15/subject_rod/5970/5870-114.jpg

The optimum scaling is not with two 5970, but one 5970 and one 5870.

Looking forward to some testing later today... :shifty:

What temps do the 2 580's idle at?

What temps do the 2 580's idle at?That Arctic cooler is very effective! Totally noiseless too!
Both the 5970 and the 5870 runs idle at 32-36 degree C, fully loaded like above benchmark neither of them came above 65 degree.
Silent Hunter 4 is not able to push it above 60 degree!

Stock cooler would easily send either of them above +85 degree... :nope:
$150 it was a good price, :yep:Absolutely! Cooler alone is almost $70 and from February this year.

Only downfall is that it's so fat or thick, there's no room next to it for both cards to run at the same time! :rotfl2:

Time to finally get that watercooling kit installed... A project long overdue... :nope:

To get this thread back on topic :D I can highly recommend the 11.4 driver - unless you really insist on the WHQL thing.
If you're using a series 5XXX or 6XXX card there are quite a few new options, like morphological filtering, tesselation and surface format optimization.
And as demonstrated above, it is very fast!

I am surprised by that. I run a 5850 and under heavy load it has never been over 65C. Stock.

Thank you for that link on the new CCC interface and options.

I am surprised by that. I run a 5850 and under heavy load it has never been over 65C. Stock.It will depend on your CCC and Silent Hunter 4 settings.

Try these as close as you can:

AA 16x box
AF 16x
A.I. standard
MM HQ
V-sync on
AA Mode MSAA

In documents\SH4\data\cfg\ open file GFXSettings.cfg and use these lines:

[Current]
DepthBufferEffects=1
Filters=1
Glare=1
UnderwaterDispMap=1
LightShafts=1
3DShipWakes=1
DetailedWaveRipples=1
UnitNormalMaps=1
ShipCausticsEffects=1
Ship3DDamage=2
CharacterDetail=1
ParticlesDetail=9
TerrainObjectsDensity=6
TerrainObjectsLODSize=7
GammaCorrection=50
VolumetricFog=1

- save file, boot up Silent Hunter 4, run in external view for some 10 to 15 minutes and then return to CCC for a temp. reading.

That usually brings the GPU to a boiling point... :shifty:
