Hi all...Can someone help this green ex Fleet Boat skipper.

I am running GWX3.0 with the above and havent a clue what I am doing when it comes to targetting / plotting etc.

I have found most of the training vids but they have no sound, so to a complete newbie this just ads to the confusion. Have also found various read me and examples but again they arent helping me to form a complete picture.

So, has anyone got / found a complete training vid or pdf...PRETTY PLEASE

My men are getting restless and the bar bill is costing me a fortune but I darent leave port without some basic training :06::)

Word, boyo!

okay! i've found that the red marks don't work as well as the "built-in" settings on the zielkerswinkel (i think that's the spelling of the circular thingy around the periscope...)
okay, i just moved, so i'm missing the cheat sheet, but this is what i remember about ranging...

on each of the periscopes, the circular thing has a number (x6 or x12) which indicates which magnification it's designed to work best with.
i believe in stock magui 3.4, the attack peri is x12 and the observation scope is x6.
so! in the attack peri, zoom to 12x magnification(max zoom), then count the number of marks the target takes up vertically. line up that number with the "90" on the innermost ring, then look up the mast head height in your identification manual, and look on the outermost ring for that number. the number just "in" from that should be your range.
if you're using 6x in the attack scope, i think that is read by aligning the number of vertical marks at the "30" in the innermost ring.
if you're using 1.5x (least magnification), it should line up at the "7.5" in the innermost ring.
for the observation scope ("6x" ring), start in maximum magnification (6x magnification), do the same, except that now you line up the number of vertical divisions with "90", and if you're using 1.5x (minimum magnification), line up the vertical divisions with "15."

As for angle on the bow, line up for range, then look up the overall length of the contact in the recognition manual (id manual), click on the mast head height in the outermost ring, and drag that to the overall length of the contact, count how many horizontal divisions the contact takes up, look up that number on the moving ring, and it should match up to the contact's aob in the innermost ring.

as for contact plotting,

i'm too tired to write that up right now lol traveling really takes it out of you.
you use one of the wheels that pops up from the buttons on the lower right-ish (i think "F", tho it may be "B") (pretty sure it's "F"), your course is automatically put in, just point the long indicator at the contact's relative bearing, and it's other end should indicate the contact's true bearing.
go to the map, and use the ruler to draw a line from your current position in the true bearing direction with length the contact's range.
if you get two (accurate, timely) datapoints like this 3 minutes and 15 seconds apart, the distance between the dots will be the contact's speed
(you can also use the alternate stopwatch background, wait for the contact's bow to cross the crosshairs and start the stopwatch, don't move the crosshairs, and wait for the contact's stern to cross the crosshairs, stop the stopwatch, and the long lines are marked by contact's overall length (you can find that in the recognition manual) and by contact's speed. this also works better if you are at 0kts (all stop) or if your boat is pointed toward the contact) and the contact's course will be indicated by the direction from the first dot to the second dot.

for great help in attacking, try looking for 90 degree aob attack tutorials/help
i believe there are charts for that included in the magui...

whew! hope that was helpful :D
if not, just ask me about the parts i may have missed or skimped on info!

: edit :
just remembered that makman is super-quiet on his training vids. turn it all the way up and lean in, i swear to bob, i thought about shooting him a nastygram about that lol... or headphones and adjust volume from there...

Hah i was just about to start a thread and saw this.

yes we need a modern tutorial for MagUI Final. Just downloaded it. I am running NYGM some other mods and MaGUI Final mod. Where are the videos for using all the new plotting tools. I want to start from scratch and learn how to plot a course. Intercept. Find an intercept course. etc. etc.. And i would love a comprehensive tutorial on how to find a torpedo attack solution.

Can somebody direct me to the videos/manuals, etc.

I have all the old SH3 manuals but they arent much help with all this new stuff with MaGUi.

Manuals are all over the shop , there are docs in the downloads but they arent that much help for us greenies. Makman has done, what looks like a very good tutorial but he is mute, so I might as well be watching an episode of Baywatch :)
