I was watching the boob tube the other night and a recruiting commercial comes on. It was put together pretty well I suppose but I was expecting something different at the end. It wasn't looking for the young ignorant and impressionable volunteers for the United States Navy but young ignorant and impressionable people for America's Navy a Global Force for Good. I wonder if Canada, Central and South America show the same commercial and just who is it that defines good?

On the topic of Navy recruiting ads, I got to meet one of the guys who showed up at the end of one of the first 'Global Force for Good' ads, Rear Admiral Arthur Johnson. I guess he was one of my dad's first COs, and when he came down to look over the naval air station we got together and had dinner. Just something I thought of while reading this :)

About the ending of the 1st and 2nd videos "Fight with the Canadian Forces" I get the impression they're looking to pick a fight with me. :hmmm: :DL

Oh and that fella isn't lying when he said he's avoiding obstacles. I would feel that way too sitting in a dark closet closed off from the rest of the world. :DL

I like the 3rd short but to the point.

At least they don't seem to be brainwashing children into thinking they are masters of the world.

Rick Mercer beat them all couldn't have asked for a better recruiting tool.:har::salute:

I always enjoyed Canadian recruitment ads simply for the fact it doesn't mention "Global" enforcement or anything having to do with force projection.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1tMYiOhEz4&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1tMYiOhEz4&feature=related) I found the line at the end interesting...

The Royal Canadian Navy was formed 100 years ago.... I'm guessing no one told them the RCN was disbanded 43 years ago and became the Candian Forces Maritime Command. :damn:

Oh and while we are on the subject of recruitment ads...

I just saw a AF recruiting commercial spouting "America's Air Force" to go along with that list.

My theory is, its softer sounding. It sounds military, yet less military at the same time. Kinda like a euphemism. Ultimate idea being to make it sound more attractive to get more recruits.

"Global force for good" ???

I suppose now hegemony is now equated to good. Good for who.

Is the military turning into a game of D&D? Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good :D

Mr. Recruiter, I would like to join up but I am more Chaotic Neutral, which unit could I join?

Uh son, that would be the Druids and their office is down the hall.

I suppose they good have done worse than "Global Force for Good". Not much worse mind, you. Sailors have enough to worry about without a slogan that could easily be used to poke fun at their waistlines.

I like that Army motifake, though. That's be a great recruiting poster. If you cut out the second half of the caption, it's be an accurate one too.

A global force for good... as in Trade goods... as in the only thing the navy is good for is transporting cheap goods from China. :03: :rotfl2:
