Hi guys,

when you play with silent hunter commander their is an option where you can play with real life transfers. Obviously the problem with this is that you can lose men that you have been building up experience. My question is do you play with this option on or not?
:D

Not at the beginning of a career, which for me (so far) also means the beginning of the war, when I consider it justifiable to allow a new crew on a new boat to spend more time together as a unit.

If the career lasts into late '40 or '41 I am more likely to turn it on, altho once I reach that point I do tend to exchange some old hands for new myself anyway after every patrol. Letting Commander throw in a couple extra "surprises" is kinda fun though.

I use the option from the beginning of my career, though it has costed me once or twice the loss of my IWO.

I do not use it.

I have not been able to beat the game yet with an elite crew. I am not ready to handicap myself yet.

I always use it. It sometimes transfers in new crew who are already qualified. And sometimes if a man goes missing too late I'll go on patrol one short.

I use it from the beginning of the war.:salute:

I choose a realistic crew from the beginning, and enable realistic transfers.
The second time I am nudged to cut a senior officer loose for his own boat, I do so. Though only one at a time.

And then (and this is really nerdy), I roll dice for everyone else:

1-2 means the person is up for transfer.
If I roll 1-2 for them, I roll again, with a 1-2 meaning they are dismissed for transfer. Each crewman has an 11% chance of being transferred out, which means I lose about 5 each time.

This can wreak havoc, of course. You might lose no one. You might lose all your watch and hydrophone POs.

And, given the bureaucratic inefficiency of the time, I don't find it odd. I just roll with it and move on.

I use dice for a lot of things, but crew transfers haven't been among them. I'll give that a try. :sunny:
