The first race is upon us.

Are Red Bull going to sweep the board again with Vettel retaining his title?

Are Ferrari going to usher in the age of Alonso? Can Schumi surprise, and can Mclaren with Jenson and Lewis over turn their terrible testing form and surprise anyone?

Also on the lookout for young talent.

Mark Webber?

With this season's boat load of changes (movable wings, no f ducts, new rubber, the Return of KERS, and engines driven by environmentally sustainable hamsters) there are no sure-fire bets, but I'm thinking that the Evil Empire has something very hot under the cowling of the F 150 superscript 'O," and love him or hate him, Alonso is the best pilot to have when things are tight. I just hope that whats-his-name for Red Bull -Justin Beiber?- gets bitch-slapped by Mark Webber and cries. Just once.

It is just too bat that Kubica won't be in the drivers seat at the start of the season, maybe even the entire season. One of the few good things out of Poland ever:D

I read this, in the first practice for Sunday's Formula 1 premiere was the Red Bull drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, fastest. The second exercise was twice McLaren at the top by Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.

Whats everyone's opinion of Bernie Ecclestones suggestion of using "fake rain" to make races more exciting. As if last season wasn't exciting enough, Herr Bernie wants to put rain in....

You've got to admire BE's business acumen. He's a right bastarge but he knows how to make a dollar.

I'd like to wee Mark Webber get a win at Melbourne, particularly if this is his last year in F1. He should have the car to do it, though Red Bull looks like putting all its support behind Vettel again this year.

Interesting that JB and LH were fastest. I've read some commentary writing off McLaren this year. I hope its another close season with a group of drivers getting wins rather than just a procession.

Like taking away dates from Europe where the sport was born and loved, and selling it away to repressive oil sheiks only in the interest of money.

Loved how we had to miss the season opener this year........:nope:
Of course Bahrain is about as exciting as watching two flys scrog on your window seal on a sunday morning.

I never said he give a rats clacker about the fans. As long as he keeps his wallet fat he's a happy man. And you hve to admit, he's good at keeping his wallet filled.

Late: Button ran his F1 car at Mount Panorama during the week. If Bernie wants to move the race from Melbourne, I'd lobby for the Mountain to have it, if we can keep it.

Will be watching tonight with 4 and 20 pies, Mars Bars and Weet Bix...from the infield at Fontana. I've got tickets for the 400 tomorrow.

The thing is, the boring factor is not just the cars, or the rules, it is also the drivers we have now.

How often does a driver interview contain the phrase "it was very difficult".. whinge, mope etc etc. I just want one of them to say, just once. "How do you think it was? I was driving one of the 20 best cars in the world. It was F*&^in awesome!!"

"Snoozefest?" What about all the very uber-exciting racing storylines?

Will the Pirelli tires degredate into puddles of stinky black goo before the end of the formation lap?
Will it rain in Sepang? When?
Will it rain some more in Sepang? When?
Will using KERS result in an increase in global warming, or just post-nucelar apocalytpic indigestion?
Is the little flap on the rear wing that opens and closes at the driver's command really deserving of a 25 cent name like "drag reduction system" if it's whole purpose appears to be to give the TV talkers multiple chances every lap to say "HE'S OPERATING THE DRS!!!!!" as if 17th place had suddenly produced hellfire rockets out of its radiator ducts?
Will Massa punch out Alonso before Nico punches out Michael, or should he wait until Hungary?
Does Lewis Hamilton know all of the Pussycat Dolls? Or just the one?
This is pure FIA excitement, I tell you. Plus, I hear that there's a race, too.

First two laps of the Chinese GP along with the last seven were good. On the whole a little better than the last two, just.

I am getting a bit tired of Vettel immediately pulling away from the rest of the pack on lap 1. The race was fun to watch, but it's weird that all the interesting stuff didn't involve the leader in any way - he was barely shown in the coverage I saw until the final lap.

I think the FIA should require the installation of a drag chute on Vettel's car to make the race more interesting.

Falkirion

Monaco was exiting, also having three world champions on the podium on three completely different strategies was interesting. I think my favorite moment in the race was Barrichellos overtake of Schumacher.

It appears that King Bernie finally figured out that he can't have a race without cars and drivers (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/formula_one/13694628.stm).

"Hopefully we can return in the future, but of course it's not on," Ecclestone told BBC Sport's Dan Roan.

"The schedule cannot be rescheduled without the agreement of the participants - they're the facts."

Now if he could only figure out that the sport would be far better off he just got hit by a bus. What a Tool.

Not a bad race, better than the last few years there anyway. Can't wait for Silverstone, now that should be a pretty damn good race. Lord_magerius
07-11-11, 05:14 PM
To be honest, If I were in the same position, I would have made the same call. Last lap, you've got two cars on the podium and one is looking to pass the other. With the way Webber was on Vettel's arse, all it would have taken is a simple lock going into a corner on those worn tires and then bang, goodbye, zilcho points. I don't think it was in favour of Vettel, I think they just wanted to bring both cars back in one piece and get the points. Still must have been bloody frustrating for Webber though.

Jimbuna
07-12-11, 03:04 AM
It seems awful coincidental to me that whenever such orders are given they are invariably always in favour of whichever driver is topping the points table.

That radio message to Webber really hacked me off.....it's nothing new I know, but come on.....is this motor racing anymore?

I'm happy 'he' didn't win again, simply on account of livening this year up a bit....

Talking of motor racing- did anybody see the GP2 race afterwards? Now that was a race.

Sammi79
07-13-11, 05:44 AM
The more I watch this season the more I dislike all the ridiculous rules and hearing radio coms. at least Alonso was reserved - better than Vettel 'WOOOOHOOOO YEEEAAAAAHHHH, YES, YES, THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, OHHHHH YEEEEEEHHAAAAAAA' like an overexited child. Qualifying is an absolute joke now it was novel at first but I am yearning for a traditional 2 day 2 hours each plenty of time to see who is really the fastest. Also funny isn't it after a recent rule change, Ferrari and Red Bull cars seem about even, Mclarens are now significantly slower than them. I don't mind that it keeps the big teams competing, BUT - Renault have obviously really suffered with this - where were they? battling with Sauber etc... when they were up with the best of the rest as it were, seems a little unfair to them if you ask me. Also, why dissallow something that is technically simple while allowing hideously complex and expensive systems like KERS. Bernie and FIA have their heads wedged firmly up each others backsides and they're screaming 'We'll never pull them out!' Sheesh... now we have team strategy being affected by radio coms being broadcast - not to mention Pirelli tyre monopoly, aswell as being pressed to make tyres that wear out quicker !!?!??!? 10 or so laps (whats that 25 miles max?) and then they're gone is absoulutely ludicrous.

Anyway, the Silverstone GP - Well done Alonso great drive. Well done Hamilton, the best Mclaren could hope for and apart from you the other top 6 positions were decided completely by pit stops/pit crew screw ups. Vettel is looking decidedly shaky ATM when he gets someone close up to him he starts twitching all over the place even when its his team mate. Also he doesn't seem to have the willpower/ability to overtake. He always gets a good start etc.. so quite often he dosn't need to I guess. That boy needs to spend some time being beat though or he'll never be able to do it. Really feel for Webber in that 'team' He's a good driver and at Turkey, and Silverstone he IS quicker than Vettel. I hope he dosn't quit after redbull but I can't see him wanting to stay on in a less competitive team and I can't see him staying on with redbull now either.

I remember a race where Mansells pit crew failed to properly attach the right rear, of course being the rear he didn't realise til he got out on the track... At least Button didn't have to experience that but yeah I'd be fuming if I were him. Still, these things will happen. Oh yeah Force India need to sort their stuff out, Diresta was holding his own in 7th until their wrong tyres screw up. That sort of screwup shouldn't ever happen.

Well good on Webber then, another few laps he'd have got him. It would bug me so much if I didn't have to hear it. Personally I think they should ban pit to car radio and go back to pit boards. Or even just a display on your wheel that gives the gap to the guy in front and the gap to the guy behind every time you cross the line. or something. Maybe I watch next one with sound off, its not as though I'd be missing much.
