So I read that WoT is going live in a few weeks, 11 April if I'm not mistaken.

But I'm not even sure what that means. Is this going to be a subscription based game? Or a 'after market' add-on type deal (free to play, but the really nice rewards are cash based).

And yes I know it's not a good sim, as the physics and controls are very arcadish, but I've really been having fun with it (got 3 tier 3 tanks in a few days).

Hi,
the game is going to be Free 2 Play.
The beta settings on your account will be wiped
Everyone will start at 0 with just 3 tier 1 tanks.

However, the you can buy Gold (Premium Account) through micro transactions.
Last time I looked there was no fixed price, but I think something like 2500 gold for $10/10Euros was mooted

heres a link to the preorder thread http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/29818-preorder-bonuses/page__st__40

and interesting poster (may be out of date) http://downloads.worldoftanks.ru/wotru/comeu/uploads/preorders.jpg

OK good. And the wipe will be a good thing for me I think, as I didnt really understand the tech trees and whatnot at first, and wasted a lot of points.

Are we putting together a clan? I'd really like to get some coordinated manuevers going on. Like a scout that doesn't suicide so my artillery can hit some targets, and a couple tanks w/ a TD setting up some ambushes...

SgtPotato and I played a few matches the other day, and while we weren't very coordinated (I was playing in a stug and he was in a easy8 sherman most of the time, it was fun and I gained enough EXP to get myself the JgdPz IV!)

I'd like to start a clan, pre-wipe is fine, and post wipe once the game goes live, I'll have to see about hosting a clan, if I have to spend money opening a premium account to do so. chances are I'll be able to, but we'll see how it goes.

I wouldn't mind to join the subsim clan for WoT. :yeah:

I never understood why people call groups in military simulations clan's. This isn't world of warcraft lol so why do we use their analogy's?

Wouldn't Squad or Platoon or Unit be better?

"World of Tanks" does make sense because this game will have variety of WW2 era tanks around the world. As I recall, they will add french, british, and japanese tanks soon.

Sledgehammer427
03-24-11, 08:24 PM
Japanese tanks wil be fun to kill. IIRC they weren't very good at all DURING the war...and the post WWII time period we see some of the heavier tanks appearing, we kept them from making new ones...

WoW uses Guilds, not clans. So it's not their nomenclature.

Clan's have been around since the first days of online shooters. We had a clan in my dorm back when (actually before, one of my classmates hacked iD) Quake came out, back in '96.

I think it would be cool to have some organization in how the game operates. We won a match today because the other team got into a TK'ing pissing match. I also hate going around a side the requires support, only to see the entire rest of the team has gotten jammed up a in a choke point in a valley of death. :nope:

Sledgehammer427

agreed, Gargamel.

it seems that sometimes you find a good, tactically minded group and you end up totally beating everything, and sometimes you get a bunch of individualistic morons who jump ahead and die quickly.

I had to take one for the team tonight. Some idiot went around shooting us, so I had to TK him to get him to stop. :nope: Then he started yelling about how I TK'd him. everybody told him to shut up lol.

But since The wipe is coming soon, I've decided to stay around tier III tanks. I've discovered the M37 is a nice artillery piece, and the M2 with the 75mm Howitzer (thing looks like it's barrel broke off, or was just left at home) is great medium tank. I usually get 3-4 kills per game with that thing. Pretty maneuverable with a good punch.

I have learned though, that for tank destroyers, unless you have a huge gun, there's no real point to them. They just don't have the survivability or power at the lower tiers to do that great. I mean, I do like my Marder II, but there doesn't seem to be any reason to hang around at lower tiers with the TD's.

I wanna keep my PzKmpfw IV Tiger1 AusfE:wah:

as for the game itself, it needs some serious fixing and not worth getting a premiun acct. the devs, from what I can tell, have never communicated with it's beta tester base, of which I'm one. so, I have no idea if the devs are even aware of the concerns we have:confused:

Wargaming.net have undoubtedly found a money maker. They have just earned themselves an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for 125000 players online at one time?

The game was closed beta, as many will know. This moved to open beta.

It goes live on 12 April.
At this point everything except your name will be deleted from the system.
Everyone has to start again, and that may mean a long hard slog.

Boxed sets can be bought. You are effectively paying in advance for a bulk amount of gold, and depending on how much gold you buy, you get a free light, medium or heavy tank. Top prices are not cheap, and may well be beyond the reach of children and players in countries where this amount of money simply is not available.

After 12 April you can buy gold at around £10/$10/10 Euro's for about 2500 (If the rumours are true).

Closed Beta testers may get a free tank or three as a reward.
It appears that Open Beta testers may get nothing.

You can play the game for free, you do not need gold to play.

This being the case, my advice is to play the Russian starter tank, and stick to the Russian Tree if you want a Russian tank. Do not waste time/credits on playing random tanks as without gold you cannot convert your experience from them to research alternatives.

The trick to playing without gold is to research the minimum on each tank to get to the next, without buying it, and without leaving experience stuck in the tank. Remember, without gold you cannot use it on a later tank.

I welcome the hard wipe, as it will erase all of the lemming squad who wreck the game. I have played over 5000 battles, and reckon that out of those there have probably only ever been 20 occasions when a small group have read each others minds and known instinctively what to do. When that happens it is magical, and the effects are devastating for the enemy.

Sadly, a bunch of kids with 'big tanks' will rarely understand tank warfare?

That is my biggest concern, will free accounts get any gold at all as a teaser? Like 100 a month?

I like playing my 2 light tanks real quick, do a Banzai and die, then move onto whatever tank I'm progressing, and if that get's knocked out quick, onto my M37 or M2. That way I always have experience in the mill. Then I can convert it all to free exp using gold, which right now they are giving us 250 free a day.

But that all goes moot when it goes live.

I really wish they would give a stipend of like 100 gold a month if you've actively played like 10 hours that month, or the ability to convert silver to gold, like at a 25k to 1 exchange rate. Something ridiculous so it's not profitable.

I think the allure of the game will deaden to many player when it goes live, as all the free gold will disappear.

And I'm not sure what records you're refering to. As I have never seen more than 10,000 players on the NA servers. Those could have been done befoer the recent split of Europe/NA servers though, apparently this is huge in Europe. But I know that can't be for MMO populations, because WoW breaks all those records. To even suggest a niche MMO, although free, has surpassed WoW in any aspect is almost laughable.

I have been playing the beta since just before Christmas. The game is enjoyable. It certainly is not a sim but all in all fun to mess with. I have a slew of tanks in my barn. Nice to know there will be a fresh wipe. I will stick to American tanks. Seems to me many go for the German metal. I go as avgwarhawk when playing if you want to look me up when you are on.

Sadly, I see this heading the same way Navyfield is going...

Great gameplay, but the grinding gets old very quickly and it becomes hard for new players to join ranks because of elitists (this is my experience with NF). As for WoT I have never played (and sadly can't until they come out with a mac version, but based on the videos of gameplay it seems its very similar to NF.

I think, since that I'm not planning on paying for this, the I will work on becoming a low tier specialist, ie IV and under. Without gold, it will make the system difficult to advance, but if you specialize, the game will still be fun at low levels.

I'm kinda looking forward to the wipe, but then, I'm going to miss my 106% crew on my M37. Never felt the need to upgrade to the priest and start over, as the only change was increased HP, and when an SPG is taking direct fire, the end is near regardless.

Sigh.... I just now saw that a) you can buy premium accounts with gold, and b) the benefits of the premium accounts. For the last 5 days I've been just turning the gold into credits!. Now by using it as a premium account i get more xp and credits ! I was wasting it on the LEAST efficient method of using gold.

Not that bad early on, around Tier 5 is the most profitable area for making money with tank destroyers being the pest iirc (And I think especially the Stug) Its actually unprofitable to use the higher tier tanks since the repairs and ammunition cost more then what you get from the battle. :hmmm:

Gargamel
04-13-11, 01:27 AM
Unless you get a really lucky match and are able to clean up and get some battle hero awards.

Bit yeah, from what I've read, you need a couple bank tanks to earn the money back from your high tier tanks.

Just be aware that you aren't wasting XP, as in when you get an elite tank, make sure you are accelerating the crew. You may not use them in the next tier, but you can't use the xp for anything else.

Turned my Loltraktor into a TD, my Cunnigham into a T2 (going for M2 w/ 76)and T57 (going for M37/Priest), and the MS-1 I'm going to split into a t-26(going for KV)) and BT-7. That way I'll have one of each type to play all round t3-t5.

The MS1 crew I'm going to carry into the BT2 and then BT7. I plan on carrying as much crew as possible, even if it doesn't help, but I want the history with my crew. The MS1 crew may get trained enough to be an advantage by the time I buy the BT2.

Turns out I do get the Valentine back, woot, since I don't have any full Bank Tanks yet its my best money maker. A lot funner then I remember. Pretty well armored (Same Armour on every side) Its odd though, I keep thinking its better to drive in reverse to take advantage of the slope.

Got my T-26 up to a T-46 also which is sucking worse then the last time I drove it, maybe cause I'm using a different gun setup but it just feels weak.

Just be aware that you aren't wasting XP, as in when you get an elite tank, make sure you are accelerating the crew. You may not use them in the next tier, but you can't use the xp for anything else.

Actually training crew on other tanks is quite useful, when you retrain them, even with basic training to another tank if they have enough XP they won't start with nothing. Thats why you shouldn't just trash previous tanks with their crew.

I'm going to hold off on playing for a while, having to start from square 1 after everything hit me pretty hard. When I started the beta, I logged on once in December but didn't start playing until January or February, so I had a huge gold deposit, and I abused all of it.
I'm going to save up some cash and buy some gold, start myself off on a better foot, I'll still play but not very often until then.

I'm afraid to say I'm not a very good noob. :D
