Hi Folks,
I'm not sure if this is old news, to me it was not.
The original article was written in Dutch, therefore I made an attempt to
translate it into English. I apologize for any wrongly used words or incorrect grammar.

The Royal Dutch Navy has, re-discovered a German Sub (U-106) which was
lost with all man, 94 years ago.
The wreck was found 70 kilometers North from the Dutch island 'Terschelling'.

Almost a century ago, U-106 was reported missing. The sub was on its way
back to Germany in October 1917, after running a successful attack on allied
ships near France. She never arrived back.

A year and a half ago, the wreck was discovered by coincidence by the
vessel Hr. Ms. Snellius. while investigating the sea bottom near Terschelling
for mapping purposes.

After further inspection with camera's and a unmanned robot, done by the
minesweepers 'Maassluis' and 'Hellevoetsluis',the name of the wreck became
clear: U-106

The German authorities had a hard time in finding surviving dependents of the
41 crew members, therefore the news was made public only this week.

'Kaleun' of the sub was the 32 year old Hans Hufnagel. The sub shall
remain at the bottom of the sea near Terschelling and will become an
official war cemetery.

Interesting reading, and a discovery of history that goes back to the WWI

@Vendor;

My thoughts exactly.

I wonder what caused the sub to sink. :06:

Uboat.net has U-106 (KL Hans Hufnagel) lost in a minefield 9 October 1917.

Mines were the biggest killers of the Kaiser's U-Boats so it seems probable considering the huge anti-submarine minefields laid by the Royal Navy in the North Sea.
