Very nice. :yeah: We're clocking up the sniper records out there, we've got the longest range too at the moment, nearly three miles.

Bloody good work by those two. Got a long way to go to meet Finnish standards, but they're doing a fine job. :salute:

A 7.62 will do a crapload of damage.
Enough to stop an Elephant.
We used to use the calibre in the Army, when we had the SLR rifle. Before we switched to the crappy and puny 5.56 Steyr.
But double kill, that's big.
Only 196 mtres at a moving target, interesting notion that, i had my Crossed Rifles in the army, meant i was a sharp shooter. Wonder how fast the bike was travelling?
196 is not far.

"Quigleys" are very rare.

What's that saying? "A Welshman can do anything but stand 6 feet tall." Guess this adds one more notch to the summary of "anything."

But it was a rifleman not a guardsman so it wasn't the welsh guards.

Within 40 days, the two marksmen from 4 Rifles, part of the Welsh Guards Battle group,

I'm not overly familiar with the makeup over there... but that's what the article said.

Maybe a similar structure to the US' combined arms combat team?

4 rifles is a battalion of the rifles, the welsh guards is the welsh guards.

Yes its a mix and match.
It becomes the welsh guards group as that is the senior regiment even though it is younger regiment.

They'll get a pat on the back for reducing the amount of ammunition used! Every round saved helps the budget!

The MoD will issue a note to all infantry expecting them to achieve the same kind of frugal spending of ammunition in order to conserve stocks now, just you see. ;)

I went out and measured off 200 feet (A 3rd of my back yard)
Given your in front or behind that line of travel?
It's a fairly easy shot provided they were traveling in a straight line.
What makes it a GREAT shot?
I would have gone for a body shot to insure the Targets were eliminated.
He got a double head shot!
That makes it outstanding in my book!
My Commanders would probably have chewed my arse out for even attempting the head shot!
:nope:

I thought the British Army was the army of the Sword and Bayonet anyways. ;)

I thought the longest shot belonged to a Canadian sniper team with the .50 caliber round?

Edit: Quick check, I stand corrected,

Feel free to call me a sissy, but the photo in that article was in fact much better than the article itself. Looking at it made me realize that I couldn't do what these guys do. I could probably, in a very extreme situation, point a gun at the general direction of a vague enemy, aim hastily and pull the trigger, but not this. Looking trough a scope like that, seeing the details of a guy I'm soon going to kill, steadily taking aim, all those things? Yeah, I'd back off. I guess I would be a pretty much useless soldier.

Still, thought provoking and therefore interesting. Thanks for the link .

Oh dear, the nice publicity turns out to be not so nice.
Britain is having the book about the battle groups time in Afghanistan destroyed.
While small sections might make good print for a newspaper article about their great actions other sections make them look like brutal terreorists who seem to just want to murder and maim so its got to be pulped.

So while their sniper scorecard might be just slightly reminiscent of the of the "sniper at work" nuts up in crossmaglen the kneecapping of suspects definately puts them in the same league as that scum.
Oh well, nice story while it lasted.

The only thing nowadays to cut things with is paper. Damn it smarts, and the bureaucracy is killing the forces. :nope:
