Is there a command hidden somewhere to allow the watch officer to report surface contacts and their bearing like in SH3? I hope this is not something that's been left out of the game.

If the WO says ship spotted, but the warning signal doesn't come up to ask for orders, can I assume this to be a bug or a false contact?

Open SH4/Data/Cfg/Commands and locate the following command:

[Cmd434]
Name=Report_nearest_visual_contact
Ctxt=1
MnID=0x3F0A0008
Key0=0x56,,"V"
Place the assigned hotkey in red and make sure to erase all commands associated with a plain V and save the file. Now your watch officer can report both bearing and distance. Works also if submerged without fog.

The warning dialogue box should come up when an enemy ship is spotted or rather bumped into. By default, set the command to Dive to periscope depth since realistically, this is what skippers did.

Good hunting

What version of SHIV are you running? Is it the Gold Edition with the U-Boat Expansion Pack? Also, are you using any mods?

I don't know if this will work for stock or what your playing, but I can get the bearing of the closest contact by Ctrl + v. It works for planes too.

Sometimes I don't get the menu window either. I don't know if it's a bug or if it has something to do with specific conditions in the game. Were you TCing just prior to contact?:hmmm:
