Hi guys,
Having read the windows 7 thread and downloading the Steam version of SH3 I'm having problems with the GWX Gold Mod which I have tried to install. The game runs prefect after the Steam download but I cannot get Gwx to work. Says the game is modded when it's not.
Now not being an expert in mucking around with files/bins/rars etc it would look like steam has all the files so that Gwx cannot patch them to get it to work.So when I look into my Folder it's not the same as having the original disk download to my C drive if you see what I mean.
Hope I'm making sense here as this is such a magic game and as all of us feel we just wish the dam thing would work without fearing we'll lose our right arm(comp) Would anyone with this download like to comment plz or
would someone who has downloaded the d2d version confirm that they have the whole disk on their harddrive. For the price of £5 I dont mind a second purchase for such a game as this.

make sure you're pointing GWX to the correct folder, steam is in a different location than where GWX thinks SH3 should be

Eventually found SH3 and it shows it's been modified hence GWX will not work with it.This baffles me as I've not applied anything to it or changed things that I am aware of.Before trying to apply GWX I have played the game/tutorials etc, would this modify it ? Don't want to go for a complete uninstall/re-install just yet as I'm unsure STEAM will let me download again. Also wish I had a hard copy ie disk so it wouldn't matter...lol
Dilema...good news Game works...bad news..cant use mods.
Maybe I should just be gratefull I can get to sea.

OK.
I will go over this again.
I built the installer for GWX 3.
I know it like no one else does so what I say is the absolute truth!
You have a Steam install of SH3.
What you MUST do is go slow when installing!
You will see this come up

You MUST select browse and guide it to the steam folder where SH3 is!
Don't just click-a-click like some mad man on meth!!
Pay attention to all the screens!
That's why I put them there.
It will work once you take a moment and actually read things.
(And turning up the speakers to max helps!)

Thankyou Privateer for your post and screenshot of which I have seen slowly during my attempts to get the program to work.I have used the browse button as indicated and slowly selected the folder which has the Data for the game on.And it still says modded file when selected. After a few days now of approaching this problem after going away and coming back afresh,I think what is needed is a fresh set of eyes.To-day I am visiting my youngest son of 24 who has a Degree in Computing.I am of coarse keeping my fingers crossed as he struggles to cut the grass for his mother.I will keep you informed of further developments.

Well on arriving at my sons flat I found he had been sent home for the day as he was showing the early signs of Flu and to be honest he looked pretty bad so my wife and I dropped off what we had for him and I resigned myself to the fact that my GWX problems would remain for at least another week or so.We had in fact dropped off a new carpet cleaner and as I was in the shop (Curries/UK) I noticed on a rotating stand a copy of SH3 £5/$7.Branded under Revival/Focus which was up to date 1.4 and later to find works with Windows 7 straight outa the box.
This morning determined to get everything up and running myself I un-installed the Steam version. Which by the way can be re-installed from Steam at a later date with no extra charge. And had to delete some parts myself as the un-install feature did not completly remove all signs of SH3.I ran the new hard copy but did not install Game Shadow.I used the default settings throughout the installation.I then applied GWX exactly as I had tried to do to my previous Steam version and exactly in the same way. Hay Presto:yeah:
My Jaw dropped at the Gwx MOD and so far it's a dream to play.
I will still be running through in my mind what happened and where possibly it went wrong but at least this story has a happy ending.
Many thanks to all on Subsim for the help and support.
