I haven't encountered this problem myself but the GWX manual describes something which seems similar to your situation:

"Players who have just one career in stock Silent Hunter III will occasionally find their career has no saved games, even though you successfully saved your most recent game, and the save game files are present in their proper career folder."

"This is a stock Silent Hunter III behavior and seems to happen when you have deleted the career named after your player name and replaced it with a name of your own creation), so the GWX team suggests you create a dummy career (e.g., for Leutnant z. S. Fubar) before starting your real career to ensure this does not happen."

Hope this helps...

Wow, that's impressive that you've only been here a month and read the GWX manual :yeah:

If only more of us did :D

:know:

It's a surprisingly good read, and made me feel sentimental for the days when computer games were always accompanied by mighty tomes.

Except this manual was written for GWX by Pablo, not Ubisoft.

Didn't intend to suggest the manual was written by Ubisoft, sorry if that was your impression.

May be a long shot but clean your registry first and then install the game.
Make sure that you delete any files associated with the game.
When uninstalling the game don't keep any saved careers.

Hope this will help.
Good luck

There is a small program called RegVag registy cleaner.
You can dowload a trial version. Just google it and you will find it.
Then follow the instructions.
Good luck

Now it is saying abandon career again even after the registry & a whole new install of the game

The game installs the career data in your My Documents folder. I understand you even reinstalled Windows, could it be that the My Documents folder is on another computer or a usb disk or something so it is not deleted during the reinstall of Windows?

Delete the SH3 folder in C\MyDocs folder Mike

Did that reinstalled everything & it worked 1 time but the next time I did time compression & it stated abandon career after save was successful.Getting very frustrated not being able to play the game.

Post some screen shots.

Does it only do it after TC, or after a saved game?

Just for something stupid you are overlooking (ie the machine not being plugged in etc) that is causing you to die.

This isnt a CTD, its a death. There's got to be some mechanism. What's your depth. What TC did you die at? Where are you? Near shore? Minefield? Is it always the same game? Start a new career and see if it does it again. It could just be that ONE save. Try loading an earlier save.

It does it all the saves. I redid the career & it did it again

Are you playing at 100% realism?
If yes , then you can not teleport to base. You have to be the max 30km away from the harbor to dock , or literaly enter the port and dock.

There is a file in the .cfg folder :GameplaySettings.cfg

At the end of the file there are the values of the various settings.
Change one so that the total is less than 100
Save and run a patrol.
Try to teleport now.

KEEP A BACK UP OF THE ORIGINAL FILE. It is crucial.

Is this a brand new installation WITH NOTHING CHANGED in the CFG file or anywhere else?

If the answer is 'YES' then there is a serious problem here....you will more than likely have a fault based deep inside your OS that the SH3 game engine is unable to come to terms with.

You could try installing stock/vanilla SH3 and see if the problem persists.

Yep, 99% reality or less, and you can teleport to base from anywhere, 100% reality, no teleport to base.:shucks:
