I've recently come back to playing SHIV now that I have a better computer to handle it at full everything! Yes, I'm a happy man! :D:woot:
I've been through a few patrols now and got rid of a few not so good crew in favor of some much better at port. Now that they are progressing as you would expect, I have noticed that 3 of my crew have a 3rd specailization which is red, and two that are an "off" gold color.
The ones I see now are:
Listed as "local abilities" - Improved surface speed and Improved submerged speed. It might be notable that both are attached to Chiefs in the engine room and in the control room.
Listed as "Global abilies" - Reduce broken chance. Attached to an Lt jg Deck Officer.
I have a question in regards to this as the manual doesnt mention this, (along with an overwhelming ammount of other left out info), nor can I find mention of this on the forums or on the net in general. I'm trying to use common sense here and assuming that
1- a "global" will use that skill if earned for the whole boat, regardless of where the crewmember is stationed.
2-A "local" the crewmember must be in the appropriate compartment for it to be used/effective.
3- Only Chiefs and officers get a 3rd spec.
Q1: Are my assumptiones accurate, or am I off base here?
Q2: Is there a list of 3rd spec's that can be earned?
(If not can some folks chime in here and add what you have seen and we can make one!) :up:
Q3: Do crew gain a 4th or even more?
Q4: In the case of the "improved submerged speed" and the crew being assigned to the control room. Did he randomly earn this or is that where electric engine spec's are used?
Q5: Are their any thoughts on compartment/earned specailizations that might not be obvious that you have seen? I'd hate to misuse an earned spec!
I also have a Mod idea as well, and since it is related to this I'll post my thought here first and move if needed. (just let me know)
Idea: There should be two additional cew slots in the sub. One for the XO, and one for the COB. These are two critical positions not reflected as I can tell so far. Is there a chance this could be done? I seean officer of the Deck in the control room, 1 for each watch, and a leader for damage control. But that is as close as I can account and neither are those stated positions. If these were to be created, the efficiancy bonuses as well as skills and possibly spec's can give the whole crew a bump.
