Thanks Nik! I only just noticed myself!
Well then, I'll dedicate this to the man in my avatar. My great uncle Ted. Sailor of His Majesties Royal Navy.
Thank you everyone, and let the spam commence! :yeah:

@ Oberon: Congratulations on getting two digits ahead of the comma!
@ McBee: I can understand birthdays, but starting someone else's Post-Count thread for them? Is that proper netiqutte?
If not, I have a rolled-up newspaper waiting for you, Muttley.
If so, good job, you sly dog, you!
See how I hedge my bets there?

As beautiful a boat as she was, no, he was a surface fleet man. I only know of a few ships he served upon, there was a list but alas I have lost it, however I know he was on HMS Iron Duke at one point, and HMS Arrow at another (which is where the picture in my avatar was taken) and he was assigned to HMS Barham in November 1941, fortunately for some reason or another he wasn't able to make her sailing, and she left port without him, only to be torpedoed by U-331 and sunk with heavy casualties. Someone up top was looking after him that day, in fact, all of my family on my mothers side have been fortunate in war, from the Battle of Balaclava to Dunkirk and the Strathallan, through to Malaya.

Interesting story. Did he tell you many of his War stories?

Alas no, I was too young and I didn't see him much before he died, likewise my grandfather, it's a long story, however I heard a lot of it through my mother and through my great-grandmothers photo albums which we have. In fact, I've learnt a lot about my great-grandfather from the albums and a fair bit about my grandfather and great-uncle Ted.
I do just about remember him though, oh he had a great sense of humour, him and my grandfather when they got together, oh dear, I'm chuckling to myself just thinking about it, and Ted was quite good at drawing, I remember him drawing me a picture of a train. I must have been...oh...five at the time I'd say, perhaps a little older, but he always had a joke to tell and a smile to crack. He was a lovely person, I just wish I had known him and my grandfather a bit more, but that is how it goes.

Funny, when I started the thread about Steve hitting 30K, he didn't threaten me with a rolled up newspaper. :hmmm: :O:
Besides which, Oberon doesn't strike me as the type to go about tooting his own horn, so let somebody else toot it for him. :woot: :salute:
@Oberon: Congats on the 10K, boyo!

Because that would have implied terminology which could get me brigged. Or worse, brought under fire by your oh-so infamous posting. :D
