I'm sorry if this already has been delt with, but i did try a search without result.

I'm playing the campaigns first mission, "Total Germany" and have chosen the British east cost mission. The first patrol I sunk a couple of tankers and a small merchant. But the bar isn't filling up. I thought it would happen as soon as I reach port, but nothing.

Another problem i got is that the game crashes as soon as I'm saving it. Even on auto saves I get CTD. But the save files seems to work fine, so i can just load the save that made the crash. A bit annoying thou...

Are you sure that you patroled and hit the enemy in the right part of the map ? The East Cost Mission is a little bit confusing i guess. There is no marked area like in the western approach area.

ouch thats a nasty save bug.

The bar should fill up in real time. I park outside the Thames Estuary along the red line that denotes the mission area, and, inevitably, something comes along.
